General Summary

The Senior Director-Creative Services is a visionary leader responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, development, and execution of all creative initiatives across a large, integrated health system. This role builds and protects the WellSpan brand in alignment with its mission, vision and values and strategic goals. This role leads a multidisciplinary team of designers, writers, video producers, photographers and traffic/project managers to deliver compelling, consistent, and brand-aligned creative content that supports enterprise-wide marketing, communications, and public relations goals. The Senior Director is an exceptional creative leader with a proven ability to lead and inspire teams, build strategic relationships and deliver impactful creative.

  • Essential Functions:
  • Creative Leadership and Brand Strategy • Develops and executes a comprehensive creative strategy aligned with the health system’s brand, mission, and business objectives. • Serves as the chief brand steward, ensuring visual and verbal consistency across all internal and external communications. • Translates complex healthcare concepts into engaging, accessible, and emotionally resonant creative work.
  • Project Oversight and Execution • Oversees the development of internal and external campaigns, service line promotions, digital content, print collateral, video storytelling, and environmental branding. • Ensures timely delivery of high-quality creative assets that meet strategic goals and regulatory standards. • Collaborates closely with marketing, team member communications, public relations and clinical teams to support enterprise initiatives.
  • Project and Production Management • Oversees the project and production management team ensuring the Marketing and Communications function has the tools and processes it needs to work together effectively and efficiently.
  • Measurement and Insight • Establishes KPIs/metrics to assess effectiveness, message awareness and feedback loops. Uses data to continuously improve work and demonstrate impact. • Regularly scans external environment for best practices in public relations and improvement opportunities.
  • Team and Cross-Functional Collaboration • Collaborates effectively with the other Marketing and Communications leaders to deliver results and create and positive work environment for all. • Leads, mentors, and inspires a high-performing in-house creative team fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Manages external creative agencies and freelancers as needed.
  • Recommends staffing levels, selects and assigns staff, evaluates performance, evaluates/tests competencies (as applicable), provides orientation, training and continuing education of staff, and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions.
  • Manages budget and resources within the department as needed and in collaboration with the SVP of Marketing and Communications.
  • Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, workshops and current literature.
  • Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.

Qualificationsminimum Education:

  • Bachelors Degree Graphic Design, Advertising, Fine Arts, Multimedia Required
  • Masters Degree Fine Arts Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 15+ years Creative, advertising experience. Required
  • 15+ years Creative, advertising experience, preferably with experience in a large, complex healthcare organization. Preferred
  • Strong executive presence and ability to influence senior leaders.
  • Proven success in media relations, crisis communications and executive visibility/thought leadership.
  • Calm under pressure with excellent judgment and collaborative mindset.
  • Strong relationships with healthcare and business media.
  • Experience with digital communication platforms and analytics tools; willingness to incorporate AI into processes.
  • Proven leadership and team building skills, strong journalistic writing, copyediting and project management skills.
