This position is a member of our Water Availability Division.
Here’S What You’Ll Be Doing
- In coordination with the Brazos Watermaster, oversee the resources and staff of the Brazos Watermaster program for the (TCEQ); assure program goals and objectives are met and approve schedules.
- Provide support to management in oversight of watermaster operations and daily investigation activities; act as mentor and trains junior staff members. Review junior staff investigations and other work for accuracy, completeness and compliance with all applicable rules, statutes, and policies.
- Communicate program information to team members, management, internal and external stakeholders, and customers through verbal communication, correspondence, meetings, presentations, and/or public hearings. Oversee and assure the quality and timeliness of customer service by work group staff for both internal and external customers.
- Prepare informational materials on watermaster operations and tracks requests from upper management, media, stakeholders, and legislators. Work to develop guidance and procedures to improve watermaster processes. Review draft permits as necessary when received from permitting. Assist management in complex projects such as research, reviewing legislation, and rulemaking.
Qualifications
Key Qualifications
- Experience working with and/or interpreting water right statutes, rules, policies, or procedures
- Experience mentoring, training and/or developing employees or interns
- Experience with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC)
- Experience using computer databases
- Experience working with irrigation, farming, and/or with industrial practices involving surface water
- Experience conducting highly complex or specialized investigations and reviews regarding water
Required Education & Experience
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, with a major in a natural or physical science, engineering, environmental studies, or related field, plus six years of full-time experience in environmental activities.
One year of full-time experience in the field of environmental activities may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required education.
Or
A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in the degrees listed above, or related fields plus five years of the required experience.
Or
A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, science, environmental science or related fields plus four years of required experience.
Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. See Tex. Business & Commerce Code Section 117.001(2). Accordingly, the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure is a requirement to be hired for and to continue to be employed with TCEQ.

Work Schedule
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
