River Market Community Co-op is hiring a Full Time Produce Manager!

Experience-based pay ranging from: $23.00 - $26.00 per hour

River Market Community Co-op is seeking a candidate with management experience who has worked in a retail produce setting. The Produce Manager oversees a team of approximately 3-5 Produce Clerks. It is important that this candidate is skilled in supervising and developing staff, delegating responsibilities, assessing stock and ordering produce, navigating vendor relationships, preparing produce for sale, and providing excellent customer service.

Job Duties:

• Provide prompt, friendly, and courteous customer service
• Assist customers with product selection, requests, special orders and returns
• Supervise staff
• Schedule department staff to meet store needs and ensure hours worked do not exceed budget
• Model a communicative and caring culture by consistent goal setting, redirecting, mentoring, praising and disciplining
• Work with Human Resources to recruit, evaluate, screen, interview, and hire qualified applicants 
• Implement a comprehensive training and development program to ensure new staff are equipped with the necessary skills
• Ensure operations follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and comply with food storage and safety standards 
• Ensure department areas (aisles, shelves, bins, prep, storage and backstock areas) are in clean, orderly condition, meeting health department standards
• Ensure department equipment is in working order. Monitor cooler and freezer temperatures and follow established procedures for handling breakdowns. Advise manager of equipment problems or needs
• Build and maintain vendor relationships
• Place orders to ensure supply of inventory is always adequate and meets volume needs 
• Check incoming deliveries for invoice accuracy, product quality, damage and shortages
• Maintain attractive, fully stocked, rotated, and faced sections, including promotional areas 
• Ensure the creation and maintenance of an aesthetic, engaging and comfortable shopping experience within department 
• Participate in setting sales and labor goals for department

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in retail produce
• Understanding of financial management and budgeting skills for retail grocery
• Knowledge of organic and commercial growing practices, and organic certification regulations
• Prior leadership experience (3 years preferred) - hiring, training, directing, coaching
• Able to multi-task, perform repeated bending, standing and reaching, and lifting up to 60 lbs.
• Analytic and math skills
• Computer proficiency in: MS Office-Outlook, Excel, Word
• Ability to work varied hours and days
• Minnesota Certified Food Protection Manager certification or acquires within 30 days of hire

Essential Physical Functions:

Must be physically able to occasionally grasp, grip, pull, push, twist, and turn as needed.

Constant (67-100%): Walking, standing, talking, hearing, working in refrigeration, correctable vision including near acuity and depth perception

Frequent (34-66%): Bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds floor to waist

Occasional (1-33%): Pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying up to 60 pounds floor to waist, lifting up to 100 pounds with assistance floor to waist, lifting and reaching waist to shoulder, lifting and reaching above the shoulder

Approximately 25% of the time: Administrative duties and sitting
