Description

The Line Cook is responsible for the full scope of food preparation, including setting up and stocking kitchen stations, cleaning and cutting ingredients, cooking dishes according to recipes, and ensuring high standards of food safety and sanitation. The Line Cook will also manage portion control, minimize waste, and help maintain food cost targets. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong time management, attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering consistent, high-quality meals in a fast-paced environment. 

By cooking and delivering all member food in-house at Blue Door Kitchen, it allows BGCGTC to provide a one-of-a-kind food experience to our members.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES

Food Preparation:

  • Accountable for stocking and setting up the kitchen stations 
  • Accountable for food preparation, including cleaning and cutting the ingredients 
  • Accountable for cooking and assembling dishes as indicated by recipes
  • Accountable for ensuring food preparation and storage areas meet health and safety standards. 
  • Perform portion control and minimize waste to keep costs within the forecasted range
  • Ensure that all dishes are prepared in a timely manner by restocking ingredients at the work station and meeting prep times to ensure smooth delivery
  • Stocking inventory and supplies
  • Accountable for all food costs and responsible for overseeing daily production, waste, and adherence to standard operating procedures for the hot and cold lines

Food Safety And Sanitation:

  • Cook products to proper internal temperature
  • Washing and cleaning the kitchen and cooking utensils and storing the equipment at the end of shifts 
  • Comply with applicable sanitary, health, and personal hygiene standards

Food Packaging:

  • Accountable for accurate orders and on time 
  • Accountable for packaging prepared foods based on senior chef’s guidance 

Administrative Compliance:

  • Complete all required reports and administrative duties on time. 
  • Collect and manage required data and internal and external reporting. Ensure accuracy of data and reporting. Ensure the effective completion of all assessment and measurement activities of programs 
  • Accountable for accurate and timely collection and review of membership application  
  • Comply with all administrative policies and procedures, processes and controls
  • Accountable for accurate and timely paperwork, reports, and data entry
  • Accountable for utilizing all BGCGTC communication tools regularly and effectively

Facility & Child Safety:

  • Accountable for adherence to all organizational health and safety policies and implementation of all safety practices and procedures at assigned work location(s)
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect members, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities. Abide by facility maintenance protocols and procedures to ensure compliance
  • Accountable for reporting incidents and completing documentation within required timeline
  • Maintain discipline, de-escalate conflict between members and/or others 
  • Obtain and renew CPR and First Aid certification by deadline

Relationships:

  • Be a positive role model
  • Maintain emotional control and make good decisions under pressure
  • Represent the Boys & Girls Club in a positive manner

Attendance:

  • Regular attendance is required; arrive on time; punctuality is required

Nonessential Duties

  • Complete all other duties as assigned

Requirements

Education And Work Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience as a line cook or similar role
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation guidelines
  • Experience in understanding cooking methods and procedures, and knife handling skills
  • Certified in Food Safety with the State of Texas, OR the ability to pass Certification

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to work regular branch and program hours
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as needed
  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Must be dependable and punctual
  • Must be able to obtain Food Handler certification
  • Must be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certification
  • Must be able to pass any and all required background screens and drug screens at any time
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record, valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and liability insurance for operation of a motor vehicle relevant to carrying out duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Experience driving mid to large-size vehicles (van, bus, box truck) 
  •  Experience with Food Packaging, Loading and Delivery 
  • Bilingual
  • Experience with USDA/TDA programs
  • Work experience with or program knowledge of the Boys & Girls Club Movement (national and/or local Club) is an advantage

Pay & Benefits:

  • Hourly Pay: $17.00 per hour (non-exempt; full-time)
  • Benefits:  Eligible for health, vision, and dental coverage; 401(K) plan and flexible spending accounts; life insurance; and short and long-term disability. Paid Time off (PTO) and company-paid holidays.
