Salary
Salary is based on a scale that is tied to years of relevant experience. Current full-time instructor salaries run from $83,995-$162,757.

Job Summary:
The primary responsibility of this position is to teach three sections of Chemistry 10 each semester while contributing to curricular design in collaboration with a Chemistry course team of three to four department members. Additional responsibilities may include teaching an elective course and mentoring a designated group of students, after the Spring semester.
Requirements
- Develops and teaches Chemistry 10 classes for 10th-grade students
- Collaborates with other Chemistry teachers to maintain alignment of course competencies, content, pacing, and assessment
- Prepares, sets-up, and breaks-down materials and equipment for chemistry laboratory investigations in a shared lab space, as needed
- Assesses students using SFUHS Science Department standards-based conjunctive grading system
- Collaborates with Science Department members to continue developing the program and maintain vertical alignment with Physics and Biology instruction
- Hosts weekly drop-in office hours for students and makes availability to meet with students 1:1
- Attends weekly team, faculty, department, and all-school meetings
- Teaches or has flexibility to teach an elective course, such as forensics
- Vigorously engages in their own professional development
- Actively participates in the full life of the school, which can include but is not limited to: serving on an academic governance committee, mentoring, admissions events, sponsoring affinity groups, coaching, sponsoring co-curricular clubs, and/or involvement with our Breakthrough SummerBridge program
- Serves as a mentor to a group of 10-14 students from 9th through 12th grade and sits on a grade-level team
- Establishes community relations by maintaining open dialogue with all of the school’s constituencies
- Is familiar with and complies with all policies and regulations as put forth in the school’s documents
- Since safety and security are everyone’s responsibility, takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, faculty, staff, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry from a four-year college or university OR a degree in a related field with significant course work in Chemistry is required
- Coursework, experience, or professional development in curriculum design and instruction for high school students OR an education degree is preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Competence and mastery in Chemistry content area
- Pedagogy specific to the developmental needs of high school-aged students
- An understanding of and commitment to the school’s mission, including a commitment to student-centered education and inclusive classroom practices
- Demonstrates a growth mindset and openness to feedback
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the needs of the students and program
- Has experience with standards-based or competency-based grading or is willing to assess in this way
- Ability to create an active learning environment
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill to work with students, families, administrators, and colleagues from diverse backgrounds
- Demonstrates knowledge and skill in differentiating lessons to appeal to a variety of learning styles, needs, and accommodations
- Has experience developing an equity-focused teaching practice that demonstrates cultural competency
- Demonstrates skills to give appropriate formative feedback and summative assessments
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with all constituents in the school community
- Ability to use Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, learning management systems (i.e. Canvas), and operate AV technology and laboratory equipment in the classroom
- Openness to working in closely collaborative office environment with colleagues
