Credit Risk is a core financial risk for the Group, given the sizeable fixed income investment portfolio of around USD 85bn as at HY25. Operating effectively as a Centre of Excellence, the Credit Risk team delivers critical insights and support to the local businesses across diverse markets each with varying degrees of market depth and complexity.

The team’s core mandate is to safeguard the Group’s credit asset portfolio through a well-established, continuously evolving limit framework governed by rigorous policies and standards. Frequent engagement with key investment and financial risk teams across the organisation enables the Credit Risk function to synthesize insights and foster a strong, enterprise-wide mindset around financial risk management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Conduct credit analysis on selective investment proposals to support limit decisions: This includes reviewing relevant credit materials and articulating clear, well-reasoned recommendations that balance both credit and commercial considerations.
  • Apply a critical lens to existing credit assessments: As a second line function, it is important to provide challenge to the existing assessments in a constructive manner that acknowledges limitations and constraints across the different markets.
  • Enhance decision quality: The role holder is expected to contribute deep credit analytical expertise, proactively deliver market insights, and help translate these into actionable second line risk oversight activities.
  • Risk framework implementation and execution: Drive consistent execution and maintenance of the Credit Risk Framework, ensuring it remains fit-for-purpose and responsive to evolving market and portfolio dynamics. Provide the best practice insights, identify gaps and propose enhancements that strengthen the overall mindset and risk approach.
  • Drive proactive market intelligence and early warning monitoring insights: Enhance and lead the team’s proactiveness to market dynamics and translate these into actionable intelligence or actions to stimulate the right conversations across the business and with senior stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and ongoing monitoring of the Group’s top counterparties: Lead and own the development of counterparty risk monitoring for financial institutions using market signals and other key credit metrics.
  • Conduct ad hoc thematic credit and investment research: The Group Head Office generally focuses on the key credit risks that could impact the asset portfolio. As such, thematic reviews and deep dives will largely be driven by key themes that may arise during the course of business with the reviews focussing on assessments of the impact to the Group.  
  • Support the enhancement of the Group’s JV monitoring: The majority of this will focus on the Group’s China JV hence some knowledge and experience of the China markets will be desirable.
  • Support the production of management reporting: Assist in the production of regular Management Information for relevant Group Risk Committees as well as any other ad hoc data requests. Ability to link the
  • Work directly with reporting tools and data systems: Direct usage of investment management and reporting tools such as Aladdin (plus accompanying reporting modules), PowerBI, Bloomberg/Refinitiv and other related tools.   
  • Manage and liaise with key stakeholders: A key aspect of the role is therefore to influence first line and executive decision-makers by communicating credit perspectives with clarity and conviction. This includes LBUs, Eastspring, Investment Teams and senior management.  

Job Requirements:

  • 10+ years’ experience in a credit risk or fixed income related role.
  • Strong credit research and analytic skills, resourceful with an ability to independently source relevant credit materials from public sources to supplement the credit analysis. Good access to market contacts would be desirable;
  • China-based coverage preferable. Mandarin speaking also preferable;
  • Genuine interest in markets and keeping abreast with developments;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an ability to build effective relationships and liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders including senior leaders across different specialisms;
  • Excellent written communication skills (in English) is desirable;
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and accuracy and apply judgement to the results of analysis, all in the context of materiality and understand “the big picture”;
  • Solution-oriented and add-value driven individual.;
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, strong team player who actively contributes to team goals, shares knowledge and insights and can work collaboratively to support business units.
