About The Role
As the Data Protection Officer (DPO), you will play a critical role in ensuring the organisation’s compliance with data protection legislation, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. You will act as the central point of contact for all data protection matters, supporting the business in maintaining a strong privacy posture while enabling commercial agility.
This role is responsible for monitoring internal compliance, advising on data protection obligations, and acting as the liaison with regulatory bodies. You will work closely with teams across Legal, Commercial, Technology, HR, and Product to ensure that privacy is embedded into business processes and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the organisation’s designated Data Protection Officer under UK GDPR.
- Monitor compliance with data protection laws and internal policies.
- Advise on data protection impact assessments (DPIAs), privacy notices, and contractual clauses.
- Maintain and update the organisation’s Record of Processing Activities (RoPA).
- Lead internal audits and reviews of data protection practices.
- Provide training and awareness sessions across the business.
- Respond to data subject access requests (DSARs) and coordinate responses with relevant teams.
- Act as the point of contact for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
- Support incident response and breach notification processes.
- Collaborate with Legal and Technology teams to ensure privacy by design and default.
- Track regulatory developments and advise on implications for the business.
- What will make you successful in the role?
Essential
- Strong understanding of UK GDPR, DPA 2018, and other relevant privacy legislation.
- Experience in a data protection, compliance, or legal advisory role.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into practical guidance.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working independently and managing multiple priorities.
- Hold a recognised data protection qualification (e.g., CIPP/E, CIPM, or BCS DPO certification).
- Have experience in telecoms, digital services, or regulated industries.
- Be familiar with privacy technologies and data governance tools.
- Demonstrate a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
- Be confident in presenting to senior stakeholders and regulators.
