Legal Counsel - South Africa

Your Mission

JA Solar is seeking a skilled Legal Counsel (d/f/m) to support its operations in South Africa and across Africa. The role requires strong expertise in international commercial law, with working knowledge of English law systems and ideally civil law. The position will be based in South Africa and is 100% home office based. 

Responsibilities:

• Provide legal advice and support on commercial and corporate matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts (supply, distribution, etc.) and implement contract management requirements.
• Ensure legal compliance across African jurisdictions.
• Support business development and project structuring.
• Handle disputes and litigation cases, develop response strategies, and represent the company in arbitration and litigation proceedings.
• Manage external counsel, coordinate external legal resources, and control legal risks and case-related costs.
• Establish and improve systems for contract management, external counsel management, and dispute case management.

Your Profile

• LLB and admission to practice in South Africa.
• 5–8 years’ legal experience, preferably in the energy or infrastructure sector.
• Background in international commercial law, familiar with common law and civil law systems.
• Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills.
• Experience in dispute resolution and litigation case management
• English speaking is a must. Any additional language (French, Chinese, etc.) a plus.
• Strong communication and cross-cultural coordination skills.
