Brings an independent quantification of an opportunity's overall value, value drivers and key risks as well as advising on how the structure of an opportunity can be optimised.
The Enterprise Power Risk (EPR) Quant Team is a global quantitative team within Shell Energy Trading, focused on three core areas:
- Exposures – Measuring, monitoring, reporting, and advising on long-term power exposures across Shell Power’s global portfolio. This includes identifying hedging opportunities, embedded options, and portfolio synergies.
- Portfolio – Modeling individual components of Shell Plc’s power portfolio and providing a holistic view to assess the impact of new deals. This supports transparency and enhances decision-making.
- Return – Delivering quantitative and structuring support for Shell Power’s strategic initiatives. This includes feasibility studies, optimization analyses, and evaluating the financial impact of new business directions and investments.
The EPR Quant Team operates globally and collaborates closely with Trading, Strategy, Business Owners, and Senior Management to ensure Shell’s power exposure is aligned with strategic objectives.
As a EPR Quant Analyst, you will play a key role in understanding and reporting on the power exposures across the organization. You will work across a range of business portfolios and investment funnels, applying your research skills as well as quantitative experience in the power business to assess market risks and identify value opportunities. Your analysis will inform senior stakeholders and help shape Shell Power’s strategic direction.
Key Accountabilities:
- Execute the data collection and integration process for all power related projects
- Assess the suitability for EPR to integrate new data sources
- Improve the data structure and infrastructure to support the collection of long term power risks
- Collaborate with the business and functional stakeholders and deliver through the best use of all available resources across Shell
- Discuss and verify expected and unexpected changes in positions
- Actively analyze and improve report outcomes for the responsible region
- Develop high-quality quantitative analysis analysis across Shell’s global power portfolio.
- Perform quantitative technoeconomic research, portfolio impact assessment and feasibility assessment of potential investment decisions.
- Support the EPR Quant Manager and contribute to global initiatives that drive commercial and strategic outcomes.
Skills & Requirements:
- Degree in IT, Economics or Econometrics or otherwise proven quantitative skills
- Experience with ETRM systems or other databases
- Firsthand experience in coding in Python or similar coding languages
- Solid understanding of risk in power trading
- Strong analytical, planning, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
- Self-driven, collaborative, and passionate about enabling Shell’s energy transition.
