The OpportunityWe are now recruiting for a Document Controller on a 24 month Fixed Term Contract at TeesRep Biomass Plant in Middlesbrough. 
Working as part of the Operations team and reporting to the Plant Manager, the primary function of the role is to ensure an accurate service is delivered to all staff at the TeesREP site for all documentation requirements. This role will be responsible for all document control activities relating to the Operations function.
The document controller will work closely with a multi-function team, taking accountability for all document control activities utilising the best available methodology and document control processes, whilst identifying other opportunities to introduce improvements and best practice.


You’ll be supported with personalised on the job training, coaching, mentoring and twice-yearly development and performance reviews to help maintain & develop your contributions and competence.

Key Responsibilities


  • Monitoring and updating electronic drawings, issuing updated drawings to the controlled copy recipients via transmittal.
  • Maintain hard copies, current and superseded documentation in the document control system delivering outstanding service and results in line with and exceeding px business requirements.  
  • Support TeesREP personnel in accessing information and data from the document control system and archive using the support of electronic data storage systems.  
  • Update the electronic data storage systems used when required.
  • Develop the on-site archive storage area ensuring that all information is entered onto the electronic data storage system, including designated retention dates. 
  •  Control and organisation of all site documentation storage and storage areas.
  •  Ensure documentation is destroyed when it has passed its retention storage life in a safe and timely manner  Management of Plant & Document change requests where necessary.
  • Control the plant modification system including interrogation and cleansing of data and production of accurate and timely management information, ensuring all modification data is transferred to the existing plant files.
  • Ensure new plant drawings are updated and created using Auto-CAD and PDF writers, incorporating modifications and P&ID Drawings to the controlled electronic storage database.
  • Preparation and management of high-level administration and documentation to support the TeesREP outage planning, preparation and execution phases.
  •  Control of the Drawing Change Request (DCR) system, ensuring all drawings are modified, by priority, and all required review/approval signatures are obtained.
  • Continual document control support for project work on an as and when basis, liaising with engineers to determine how documents will be reviewed.
  • Focal point for management of all pxE project related documentation relating to system handovers.
  • Photocopying, scanning and document collation as and when required.
  • To portray the position of Document Controller in a positive and professional manner. 

Skills, Knowledge And Expertise

  • Technical background, preferably time served in a relevant trade discipline.
  •  Ability to read and understand drawings.
  •  Good EHS awareness.
  •  Contractor management skills.
  •  Good communication skills.
  •  Enhanced IT skills (Maximo, Microsoft project. Microsoft office etc).
  •  Basic leadership qualities.
  •  Credibility with peers, Operations/Eng team and contractors.
  • High concern for standards (EHS, trade skills and commercial etc).
  • Proactive with a high level of self-motivation.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines.
  • Problem Solving.
  • Good report writing, communication and meeting skills.
  •  Attention to detail.
