As an Electrical Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for inspecting, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems to ensure their proper functioning and prevent unexpected breakdowns. Your essential role will contribute to maintaining safety, operational efficiency, and the longevity of equipment by performing planned interventions and identifying potential issues before they become critical. You will work closely with other maintenance teams and ensure compliance with current safety and regulatory standards.

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE

Inspection And Diagnosis

  • Conduct regular inspections of electrical systems and equipment, such as distribution panels, motors, transformers, control circuits, and wiring systems.
  • Identify signs of wear, degradation, or overheating using electrical measuring instruments (multimeters, clamp meters, power analyzers, etc.).
  • Diagnose potential issues by utilizing electrical blueprints, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic tools.
  • Perform infrared thermographic measurements on industrial equipment, primarily electrical but also mechanical and process-related, using infrared cameras.
  • Conduct ultrasonic measurements using ultrasonic probes and cameras on industrial equipment, primarily electrical but also mechanical and process-related.

Preventive Maintenance

  • Execute preventive maintenance programs according to established schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
  • Clean, lubricate, tighten electrical connections, and replace worn or defective parts before they cause malfunctions.
  • Test electrical protection devices (circuit breakers, relays, surge protectors, etc.) to ensure proper functionality.
  • Collect oil samples from electrical equipment.
  • Collaborate on corrective electrical work within the plant.

Repair And Adjustment

  • Adjust, calibrate, or reprogram electrical components and automated control systems to optimize performance.
  • Safely restart equipment after each intervention, performing functional tests to ensure compliance and safety.

Documentation And Reporting

  • Maintain updated maintenance records, documenting all interventions, inspection results, and replaced parts.
  • Draft detailed intervention reports, including observations, corrective actions taken, and recommendations for improving maintenance processes.
  • Use computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to plan and track maintenance tasks.
  • Analyze data using software tools and document results.
  • Prepare reports and provide technical recommendations while interacting with clients.

Compliance And Safety

  • Ensure all interventions comply with electrical safety standards, including guidelines for working on live equipment.
  • Conduct risk assessments before each intervention to ensure personnel safety and prevent electrical accidents.
  • Participate in internal and external electrical compliance audits, providing necessary documentation and assisting with corrective actions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Propose enhancements to preventive maintenance procedures based on feedback and technological advancements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects to optimize system reliability and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Contribute to the implementation and improvement of plant reliability programs (e.g., infrared thermography programs).
  • Stay informed about technical and regulatory developments in the electrical field and pursue ongoing training to maintain and expand skills.

Support

  • Train operators and new technicians in preventive maintenance procedures and best practices for electrical safety.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS TO BE SUCCESSFUL

  • DEC in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Electronics, Industrial Maintenance Technology, or Electrotechnology.
  • 1–5 years of experience in electrical maintenance, ideally in an industrial environment.
  • Possess a Class C license – non-construction.
  • Proficient in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of electrical safety standards and live working procedures.
  • Familiar with industrial electrical systems and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in French.
  • Written and verbal communication skills in English are an asset.

WORK LOCATION: Kirkland, QC (This position requires travel, primarily within Quebec, as well as in Eastern Canada and the United States. You must be available to travel up to 50% of the working time)
