Freedom Technology Solutions Groups is looking to add a Backend Developer to the team! Freedom is looking for varying levels, which are detailed below. 

Junior

The Junior Backend Developer applies fundamental concepts, processes, and procedures to technical assignments in backend development. This role provides an opportunity to build hands-on experience with modern software development practices under close supervision. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain backend services using Java, JavaScript, and Python. 
  • Assist with implementing secure coding practices within a DevSecOps pipeline. 
  • Support containerized application development (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes). 
  • Contribute to cloud-based application development and deployment in AWS environments. 
  • Participate in geospatial application development, including data ingestion and processing. 
  • Collaborate with senior developers in Agile ceremonies (daily scrums, sprint planning, retrospectives). 
  • Perform unit testing and support integration testing. 
  • Document work performed and contribute to knowledge-sharing repositories. 

Qualifications:

  • 0–2 years of software development experience. 
  • Experience with Java, JavaScript, and/or Python programming. 
  • Basic knowledge of DevSecOps pipelines and Agile practices. 
  • Understanding of cloud computing concepts (AWS preferred, Microsoft, GCP, and others). 
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker/Kubernetes). 
  • Interest or coursework in geospatial technologies. 

Journeyman

The Journeyman Backend Developer independently applies expertise to multiple, complex backend development assignments. This role requires originality in developing solutions and provides latitude in designing methodologies and approaches. 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and enhance backend services using Java, JavaScript, and Python. 
  • Build and maintain secure, automated DevSecOps pipelines for CI/CD. 
  • Lead containerized solution deployments across hybrid and cloud (AWS) environments. 
  • Implement and optimize geospatial data processing and API integrations. 
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and improve system performance. 
  • Mentor junior developers and review code contributions. 
  • Contribute to system architecture discussions and recommend improvements. 
  • Provide input on deliverables, schedules, and performance metrics. 

Qualifications:

  • 3–8 years of backend software development experience. 
  • Strong proficiency in Java, JavaScript, and Python. 
  • Experience with DevSecOps pipelines, Agile methodologies, and CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab, Jenkins). 
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services (Lambda, ECS, S3, RDS, etc.). 
  • Skilled in containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, OpenShift). 
  • Experience with geospatial data frameworks and APIs (e.g., GeoServer, PostGIS, ArcGIS). 

Senior

The Senior Backend Developer provides comprehensive knowledge across multiple backend and cloud technologies, leading major assignments and guiding project outcomes. Functions as a technical expert and may lead teams of developers. 

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of enterprise-scale backend services. 
  • Architect and optimize secure DevSecOps pipelines and automated testing frameworks. 
  • Direct the migration, scaling, and modernization of applications in AWS environments. 
  • Drive geospatial solution integration across enterprise applications. 
  • Define technical standards, coding guidelines, and best practices. 
  • Supervise development teams and provide technical mentorship. 
  • Evaluate performance results and recommend project-wide improvements. 
  • Support proposal writing, technical white papers, and client briefings. 

Qualifications:

  • 9–13 years of backend development experience. 
  • Expert proficiency in Java, JavaScript, and/or Python. 
  • Proven leadership in DevSecOps adoption and Agile/SAFe development frameworks. 
  • Advanced AWS expertise, including architecture and deployment of containerized applications. 
  • Deep experience with geospatial systems and enterprise integration. 
  • Strong ability to plan, manage, and deliver complex technology assignments. 

Subject Matter Expert

The SME Backend Developer provides technical and management leadership for major backend and geospatial technology initiatives. Serves as a domain expert, directs client-facing activities, and has overall responsibility for strategy, execution, and outcomes. 

Responsibilities:

  • Define enterprise-level backend architecture strategies and modernization roadmaps. 
  • Provide technical leadership on geospatial platform development and integration. 
  • Oversee development, operations, and sustainment of backend systems across AWS and hybrid environments. 
  • Establish program-wide DevSecOps standards, practices, and governance. 
  • Interface with senior client leadership, negotiate requirements, and drive technical consensus. 
  • Provide oversight of staffing, budget, and resource allocation. 
  • Ensure alignment of technology execution with client mission objectives. 
  • Serve as a thought leader in backend, cloud, and geospatial communities. 

Qualifications:

  • 14+ years of backend software development and leadership experience. 
  • Recognized expert in Java, JavaScript, Python, and modern cloud-native development. 
  • Extensive background in DevSecOps frameworks, Agile/SAFe leadership, and enterprise CI/CD. 
  • Proven track record in geospatial system design, integration, and innovation. 
  • Experience managing large-scale technology programs, including budget and staffing. 
  • Strong client engagement and negotiation skills with senior stakeholders.
