Project Officer (Sports Materials)

The School of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) provides a vibrant and nurturing environment for staff and students to carry out inter-disciplinary research in key areas such as Computational Materials Science, Characterisation Materials Science, Defence Composite Materials, Functional Composite Materials, Energy, Nanomaterials, Low Dimensional Materials, Biomaterials Materials, Biological Materials, Bioinspired Materials and Sustainable Materials.

We are looking for a Project Officer with a background in Materials Science to advance the development of innovative polymer composites and functional films for next-generation sports and lifestyle products. The role will focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of advanced polymer systems, with emphasis on films, membranes, foams, yarns, and fabrics tailored for high-performance apparel and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Participate in the conduct of research project related to chemical modification of fibers and films with research team members to ensure completion of deliverables.
• Support team members in sample characterization by FTIR, TGA, DSC, GPC, and mechanical testing.
• Develop and optimize polymer composites with functional additives, carry out chemical modification and blending, and apply advanced processing techniques such as extrusion, foaming, and compounding.
• Collaborate with internal and external teams.
• Mentoring of FYP students.
• Maintenance of lab or equipment or supplies that include procurement and liaison with suppliers.
• Assist or produce high quality reports and documents that consolidate research findings.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Material Science or related field.
• Good written and oral communication skills.
• Entry level candidates are welcome to apply.
• Knowledge of fabrication of material composites, polymer processing and expertise in polymer characterization by FTIR, TGA, DSC, GPC, and mechanical testing are required.
