Montclair State University invites applications for a full-time, mid- to senior-level tenure-track faculty position in Strategic Communication and Emerging Media beginning August 28, 2026. This joint appointment between the Department of Information Management and Business Analytics in the Feliciano School of Business and the Department of Writing Studies in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences reflects a strategic commitment to advancing interdisciplinary education and research at the intersection of business, communication, and emerging technologies. Applicants should be qualified for appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, and candidates currently holding tenure at their home institution are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to bridge business, writing and communication studies to strengthen the communication, storytelling, and digital fluency of undergraduate and graduate students preparing for roles in a global, technology-driven marketplace. We seek a scholar and educator with a proven record of curriculum innovation, research productivity, and student mentorship who can integrate rhetorical and writing expertise with emerging media practices, including AI-driven tools, data visualization, and cross-platform digital communication. The position will involve shared responsibilities across both departments, including teaching, curricular and program development, and the advancement of interdisciplinary initiatives that prepare students to communicate effectively, think critically, and act ethically in complex business and organizational contexts.

Candidates are expected to maintain a visible and productive research agenda with high-quality publications and external funding, while also contributing to the growth of experiential learning opportunities through community partnerships and industry engagement. Evidence of success in interdisciplinary collaboration, program development, and student mentoring is strongly desired. The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the ability to work in a diverse, collaborative, and inclusive environment that values innovation, equity, and global perspectives.

THE DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND BUSINESS ANALYTICS

The Department of Information Management and Business Analytics (IMBA) offers a BS in Business Analytics, BS in Business Administration with a concentration in Management of Information Systems (MIS), a minor in Business Analytics, two graduate certificate programs in Business Analytics and Project Management, and a Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA).  The department also supports the MBA Program, teaching both required and elective MIS and BA graduate courses.  The department houses the faculty and curriculum for the business communication courses.

The Department Of Writing Studies

The Writing Studies Department is a growing department with an undergraduate major and minor in Public and Professional Writing and a large general education writing program, serving nearly 4,000 students per semester. The department offers a range of courses that include emphases on technical, digital, visual, medical/health, social justice, and community-based rhetoric and professional writing. Writing Studies courses are taught by over 30 full-time faculty as well as a dedicated part-time cohort with expertise areas that span science, technical, business, and health-related professional writing; rhetoric studies; community-engaged teaching, learning, and advocacy; creative writing; literary study and the arts. Our faculty are active writers, scholars, teachers, and artists who present their work at conferences and in monographs, professional journals, arts magazines, and other media; offer workshops on writing and teaching; and actively participate in the life of the university and surrounding communities.

The Feliciano School Of Business

The mission of the Feliciano School of Business is to transform today’s students into tomorrow’s business leaders.  The school, which is accredited by AACSB International, offers distinctive programs at both the undergraduate and graduate level including a new BS in Business Analytics, BS in Business Administration (ten concentrations), BS in Accounting, BA in Economics, MBA, MS in Accounting, MS Business Analytics, MS Digital Marketing Analytics, MS Human Resource Analytics, and various graduate level certificates and minors and certificates for non-business students.  Among the School’s strengths are a world-class faculty and staff, a diverse and driven student body, an engaged network of alumni and strong corporate and institutional partnerships.  Both academics and program-related activities are focused on student success and providing experiential opportunities beyond the classroom. THE COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES  

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is the University’s largest academic unit with over 5,000 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. CHSS awards BA, MA, and PhD degrees through its 16 departments and 9 programs with over 30 majors and 50 minors. Qualifications

  • A terminal degree (Ph.D., DBA, or equivalent) in Business Communication, Professional/Technical Writing, Rhetoric and Composition, Organizational Communication, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence and curricular innovation at the college level.
  • A record (or clear potential) of interdisciplinary research or creative activity.
  • Knowledge of or experience with digital communication tools, platforms, and technologies, including AI.
  • Strong commitment to inclusive teaching practices and communication equity in global and multicultural business environments.
  • Professional or consulting experience in business or organizational communication.
  • Candidates with professional experience through consulting or corporate roles may also apply.

Salary Range

$132,062.53-$171,967.60 Annually
