Political & General News Correspondent, West and Central Africa
This position is based in Dakar, Senegal.
Reuters is looking for an exceptional journalist to spearhead our coverage of the Democratic Republic of Congo whist contributing to the broader West and Central Africa file. Based in Dakar with frequent travel to Congo, the successful candidate will write fast, groundbreaking and insightful stories on a wide range of topics, including mining, politics, security and regional diplomacy.
Congo is one of the world's most turbulent countries, with a long history of conflicts that have drawn in its neighbours – most recently the advance of Rwandan-backed M23 rebels in the east this year. Congo is also a treasure trove of minerals, many of them essential for making modern gadgets, drawing acute interest from world powers including the United States.
In addition to reporting on Congo, the successful candidate will become familiar with the 22 other countries Reuters covers from its Dakar bureau and be just as comfortable covering coups as commodities data. For the right candidate, this is one of the most exciting jobs at Reuters.
