GEICO’s Cybersecurity organization has an exciting opportunity for an accomplished Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer. This individual will play a key role within GEICO’s Cyber Security Engineering & Analytics (SEA) team, with a focus on designing, building, and scaling cloud-native infrastructure that enables secure and resilient cybersecurity services.

Position Description:

As a Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for architecting and implementing scalable, secure, and automated cloud infrastructure across Azure, AWS and on-prem private cloud. This role emphasizes infrastructure-as-code (IaC), CI/CD integration, containerization, image development, and monitoring/metrics at scale.
 

The engineer will partner with development and security teams to deliver modern cloud solutions that enable automation, accelerate product delivery, and strengthen the organization’s security posture. This individual will also act as a mentor to engineers within the team, championing cloud best practices, DevOps maturity, and engineering excellence.

Position Responsibilities:

As a Staff Cloud Infrastructure Engineer, you will:

  • Architect Cloud Infrastructure: Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant infrastructure across AWS and Azure environments.
  • Enable Infrastructure-as-Code: Develop and manage IaC using Terraform and other automation tools for consistent, repeatable deployments.
  • Drive CI/CD Integration: Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, etc.) to automate infrastructure provisioning and application deployments.
  • Containerization & Image Development: Design, build, and maintain containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and standardized base images.
  • Ensure Scalability & Resilience: Implement solutions that meet high-availability, scalability, and performance requirements for enterprise workloads.
  • Service Monitoring & Metrics: Develop monitoring solutions and observability pipelines (Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch, Azure Monitor) to track infrastructure health and performance.
  • Champion Cloud Security: Embed secure architecture practices into infrastructure design, working closely with security engineering teams.
  • Mentor & Collaborate: Provide technical mentorship to peers, foster cross-functional collaboration, and promote a culture of engineering excellence.
  • Leverage Open Source: Integrate and contribute to open-source infrastructure, monitoring, and DevOps tools where appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Cloud Expertise: Proven experience designing and operating large-scale infrastructure in AWS and Azure.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code Mastery: Strong proficiency with Terraform (required), with experience in Ansible or similar tools a plus.
  • CI/CD Proficiency: Experience building and managing automated pipelines for infrastructure and application delivery.
  • Containerization: Expertise with Docker and container orchestration (Kubernetes, ECS, AKS, or similar).
  • Monitoring & Metrics: Hands-on experience with observability platforms such as Grafana, Prometheus, CloudWatch, or Azure Monitor.
  • Security Familiarity (Preferred): Understanding of cloud-native security principles, IAM, and compliance requirements.
  • Collaboration & Influence: Strong communication skills with proven ability to partner with leadership, development, and cybersecurity teams.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python and/or Go is required

Experience

  • 10+ years of professional experience in cloud infrastructure engineering.
  • 8+ years designing and managing AWS and/or Azure environments.
  • 6+ years with Terraform and infrastructure automation.
  • 5+ years with containerization and container orchestration.
  • Experience implementing monitoring and observability at scale.
  • Experience working in security-conscious enterprise environments is a strong plus.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Annual Salary

$115,000.00 - $230,000.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate’s work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
