Job Responsibilities:

Job Summary:

As the automation specialist supporting a Tier 1 automotive manufacturing facility, you will drive asset reliability, reduce downtime, and ensure equipment compliance with IATF 16949 standards. You will lead proactive maintenance initiatives, facilitate root cause analysis (RCA), and support injection molding and automated assembly systems—including robotics, conveyors, and servo-driven equipment.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilties:

Monitor and improve asset performance indicators: MTBF, MTTR, OEE. Lead failure investigations and corrective actions (5-Why, Fishbone/Ishikawa). Analyze downtime trends and prioritize reliability/improvement initiatives. Champion predictive maintenance (vibration, thermography, oil analysis). Optimize preventive maintenance using RCM principles. Partner with planners to ensure CMMS accuracy, BOMs, and effective schedules. Validate PM effectiveness via trend data and PM-to-failure ratios; eliminate non-value PMs. Support TPM/autonomous maintenance with production teams. Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 maintenance and calibration requirements. Serve as SME during internal, customer, and third-party audits. Recommend design changes or upgrades based on failure patterns and data. Assist the Manager in defining critical spares strategies and work with vendors/OEMs to reduce downtime. Participate in commissioning, and validation of new equipment/lines. Collaborate with controls engineers and maintenance to resolve automation-related downtime. Collaborate with controls engineers to implement automation upgrades and CI projects; ensure proper change management and validation. Collaborate with controls engineers to identify and correct recurring faults in sensors, encoders, I/O, networks, and control loops. Conceives of, plans, designs, develops, and implements new systems and/or processes. Defines scope, plans, organizes, leads, directs technical work for new and existing processes and systems. Create and Lead projects to increase equipment uptime using automation as a solution to control cost and efficiency. Works with internal and external resources to ensure all project needs/expectations are met. Supports continuous improvement efforts to reduce costs and comply with automotive specifications. Assumes responsibility for machine safety and building equipment in respective area. Perform other duties as necessary for completion and achievement of departmental goals. Will provide maintenance operation troubleshooting and production support. Training maintenance staff with new equipment as well as changes made to existing equipment. 26.) Ability to upgrade used equipment to run more efficiently. Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills And Competencies:

Reliability methodologies: RCA, FMEA, and data analysis (Pareto, trend/control charts). Exposure to injection molding presses, automated assembly, robotics, conveyors, servo systems. CMMS proficiency and solid Excel skills. Controls stack familiarity (e.g., Allen-Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix, Studio 5000; FactoryTalk View). Clear communicator with strong cross-functional collaboration and coaching ability.

Education And Experience Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent experience). 3–5 years in equipment/reliability/maintenance engineering within automotive (Tier 1 or OEM). Certifications preferred: CMRP, CRE, Six Sigma Green Belt; exposure to ISO/IEC 17025 helpful.

Additional Requirements:

Familiarity with IATF 16949 core tools (APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, MSA). Comfortable in high-volume production; hands-on on the floor with PPE and lockout/tagout compliance. Able to flex hours to support 24/7 operations and critical launches. Lead support in defining equipment standards for both new and existing equipment.
