Position Overview:

The Manufacturing Technician is a hands-on, contract role supporting the development, assembly, and optimization of medical devices with a strong emphasis on equipment operation and automation. This position plays a critical role in executing early-stage R&D manufacturing builds, leveraging both manual and semi-automated systems to assemble intricate, small-scale components. In addition to core assembly tasks, the technician will support equipment setup, calibration, troubleshooting, and contribute to process improvements involving automated workflows. 

The ideal candidate brings a technical mindset, mechanical aptitude, and a proactive approach to learning and problem-solving in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Familiarity with electromechanical systems, PLCs, or automated assembly tools is a plus. 

Responsibilities:

  • Perform manual and semi-automated assembly of small, intricate components for early-stage R&D builds 
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot manufacturing and inspection equipment in a cleanroom or lab environment 
  • Support equipment setup, calibration, and validation activities to ensure consistent performance and product quality 
  • Follow detailed work instructions, assembly drawings, and process documentation 
  • Record observations, process data, and build outcomes to support engineering analysis 
  • Collaborate with engineers to share feedback, suggest improvements, and support process refinement 
  • Assist in the development and refinement of semi-automated assembly fixtures and test setups 
  • Document deviations, learnings, and updates to procedures in alignment with quality and regulatory standards 

Key Decision Rights:

  • Recommend upgrades to equipment usability, automation efficiency, and process robustness 
  • Communicate observations, equipment malfunctions, and potential process issues during builds to the engineering team and quality teams 

Required Skills And Competencies:

  • Comfortable working with small parts under a microscope or magnification 
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining semi-automated or electromechanical equipment 
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot basic automation systems 
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and maintain focus on repetitive tasks 
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to ask questions and learn 
  • Familiarity with basic computer tools for data entry and documentation 
  • Experience working in a regulated manufacturing or R&D environment preferred 

Education And Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required 
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a manufacturing, R&D, or assembly tech/operator role 
  • Experience in medical device or cleanroom environments is a plus 

Additional Information:

  • Role is based in Acton, MA and requires on-site presence 5 days per week. 
  • Cleanroom gowning and adherence to GMP/ISO standards may be required 
  • Note: This role may include a 3 to 6-month rotation through Insulet’s Global Manufacturing Engineering (GME) organization according to project needs. During this time, the candidate will gain hands-on experience across multiple teams, build cross-functional relationships, and develop a strong understanding of Omnipod assembly and system-level function. After the rotation period, the engineer will transition into a dedicated NPI project team.

Additional Information:

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $20.00 - $29.75. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position in the primary work location in the US. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
