Are you an experienced API Developer ready to take on the next big challenge in digital banking? We're looking for someone to join our team in the Digital Channels domain at BNZ as we lead the charge in a major digital modernization effort.

What are some of the day to day tasks the person in this role will complete?
- Lead Development Efforts: Design and build robust, scalable solutions, often working on complex or high-impact components.
- Shape Technical Direction: Influence architectural decisions, patterns, and long-term technical strategies.
- Mentor and Support: Coach junior and intermediate developers, providing guidance through code reviews, pair programming, and feedback.
- Drive Operational Excellence: Champion practices that improve reliability, performance, and deployment efficiency.
- Provide Production Support: Lead by example in participating in the product support and on-call roster, ensuring issues are resolved quickly and root causes are addressed.
- Maintain Technical Documentation: Ensure system-level and architectural documentation is accurate, up to date, and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
- Foster Innovation: Identify opportunities for technical or process improvement and help lead their implementation.

What projects / work will the candidate be working on now and into the next year?
- Design, build and implement APIs for BNZs digital channels modernisation programme.
- Support a BFF layer for BNZ digital channels front end consumers.
- Contributing to BNZs Open Banking APIs through enabling the delivery and maintenance of our critical APIs.
- Feed improvements into BNZs practices and standards where appropriate.

What technical skills are required for this role?
This is an opportunity for an experienced Developer with a strong understanding of RESTful API principals. You will have strong communication and collaboration skills, with a proactive approach to influencing outcomes. You’ll also bring:
- Experience with the Springboot framework
- Experience using API gateway and proxies (eg: Kong)
- A proficiency in at least one programming language eg: Java, Python etc.
- An understanding of Kubernetes
- Knowledge and use of Kafka
- Experience working with CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins or similar
