We have an opportunity for an experienced leader to join our Technology Containers team as Platform Lead (12 month fixed term).

The Containers team are responsible for the Kubernetes platforms at BNZ. We own, manage, and live and breathe Kubernetes, offering current, secure and compliant platform products for teams to deploy onto, removing the need for teams to manage the underlying infrastructure they run on.

We sat down with our Platform Manager, and they let us know the following about the role.  

What are 5 day to day tasks the person in this role will complete? 

• Collaborate across Platforms and Engineering to help drive the customer vision for platforms and developer experience with a focus on Kubernetes platforms, roadmaps and outcomes.
• Support and guide the team through customer problems to solve and ensure platform currency, security and standards are being met to a high standard 
• Maintain both a Run and Grow portfolio of work and it’s supporting technology channels such as Teams & Jira ensuring that work is completed within SLA guidelines. 
• People leadership, guidance and upskilling. Being able to grow our people and help them learn and grow in their roles. 
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to be able to work across tech to achieve outcomes for our tech strategy. 

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity? 

This is a great team, working in an exciting space where things are changing at pace. In this role, you would have the chance explore and solve some great problems for the bank and our customers. 

What is the most challenging thing about this opportunity? 

Kubernetes is a complex environment, and we’re still working on how to simplify or remove that complexity away from our customers. We’d love some new ideas and different thinking to help us solve the gnarly complexities that exist in our spaces.

What technical skills are required for this role? 

• Product Ownership Experience: Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role, ideally in platform products.   
• People Leadership: Experience in leading and developing technical teams through all stages of the employee lifecycle.   
• Technical Knowledge: Understanding of software development processes and platform architecture.   
• Backlog Management: Expertise in creating, prioritizing, and managing a product backlog effectively.   
• Data-Driven Decision Making: Ability to use data and KPIs to inform prioritisation and product decisions.   
• Agile Methodologies: Proficient in agile practices, including sprint planning and user story development.
