Full Time
Providing accurate interpretation & translation of medical information in direct service to SSMC health care providers in order to facilitate linguistic communication for non-English speaking patients or others with limited English proficiency when specifically required by the provider. SSMC Interpreters also bridge cultural and societal rifts between patients and their care providers using the highest standards of patient-centered communication.
Provision of English/Arabic interpretation
• Performs a variety of interpretation services in multiple platforms to assist limited or non- English speaking patients/families and visitors
• Ensures that non-English speaking patients fully understand the conversation’s context
• Provides sight translation of documents & vocally expressing it in the desired language as required
• As appropriate, provides written translation of medical & official documents that are relevant to direct patient care
• Establishes and maintains quality service and positive interaction with patients, families, staffs and visitors
• If needed during interpretation, provide feedback to providers/staffs on culturally specific values, beliefs, and practices that are relevant to the encounter
Supporting Operational Excellence
• Provides and maintains required documentation as needed
• Keeps self-current by attending professional meetings, webinars and/or continuing education sessions
• Maintains and updating information in database to ensure interpreters’ compliance with SSMC guidelines
• If able, resolves in-the-moment complaint or incident that may arise and report unresolved complaints or incidents to line manager for immediate action
• Performs other related duties incidental to the work or as per the instructions by the line manager
Accountabilities
• Preserves accuracy and correcting any error of interpretation discovered during the proceedings, while ensuring interpreted content conveys original meaning and tone
• Shall remain faithful to the original text and takes responsibility for the readability, and lucidity of the translation into the target language. Content accuracy includes detailed comparison of content, facts, figures and making sure there are no omissions from the source language
• Logs all interpreting/translation assignment data on the departmental Interpreter Log for productivity tracking purposes
• Abides by the professional code of ethics & the Interpretation Services’ Policy
• Maintains confidentiality on all information interpreted, translated, and discussed related to patients
• Adheres to the highest level of service excellence and behavior toward colleagues, patients and visitors
• Provides feedback to management on regular basis
• Ensures punctuality
Role-Specific Job Responsibilities
• Provides accurate and impartial bilingual interpretation/translation to facilitate linguistic communication between limited or non-English speaking patients seeking SSMC healthcare services and health care workers who provide clinical, admin and supportive services
• Performs other related duties incidental to the work or as per the instructions by the Senior Interpreter
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in translation, foreign language or any related field or
• Equivalent experience in the medical/healthcare field performing in a patient/customer facing role
