In This Position…
Come join our newly created High Time in Service (HTIS) Quality team in Ford’s ICE & Thermal Propulsion Systems Engineering (IPTSE) group. Work on interesting and fast paced projects focused on high priority quality issues that typically manifest later in product life and are frequently design/physics related. Be a part of the team that is providing significant warranty spend and failure rate savings to IPTSE and Ford Motor Company, helping to achieve our aggressive quality improvement goals.
What You'Ll Do…
- Lead/support High Time in Service Quality Projects using 8D / Design for Six Sigma processes on aggressive timelines to support IPTSE’s warranty spend and failure rate reduction targets.
- Responsibilities include evaluation of high warranty spend/failure rate subsystems and engine/vehicle applications with a focus on issues that contribute to > 12 months in service warranty and/or are typically design/physics related.
- Projects will be expected to rapidly work through 8D/DFSS processes including problem definition, root cause identification and verification, implementation of interim and permanent corrective actions, validation, read across and prevent recurrence.
- Project leaders/supporters will be expected to present frequently to senior management project status and results, work closely with quality, powerpack and core engineers and TS’s and maintain required project documentation including 1-pagers, 6-panels, 8D reports, management summary documents, etc.
- Strong focus on warranty data/trend analysis, part return analysis and physical understanding of engine/powertrain systems and subsystems as key tools to identification root cause and interim and permanent corrective actions.
- Ability to design, execute or coordinate analytical and physical testing from component bench level to full powertrain/vehicle testing to identify root cause, replicate quality issues and validate fixes.
- Service and design for serviceability experience a plus with focus on improving repair efficiency, reducing cost per repairs and develop methods for identifying lower cost per repair opportunities.
- Identify and document lessons learned for knowledge preservation.
You'Ll Have…
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related degree
- 2+ plus years of experience leading projects
- 2+ years of experience with internal combustion engines or after-treatment systems in one or more of the following areas: Design, Test, Controls, Calibration.
- 6-Sigma green belt/black belt and Design for Six Sigma experience a plus.
- Knowledge of key engine and powertrain subsystem: for example base engine, cooling, airpath, fuel, after-treatment, etc.
- Strong project management, problem solving and organization skills
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills
- Self-starter with the ability to manage multiple work streams simultaneously
- Enjoys taking on new challenges, embraces learning and discovery.
Even better, you will have…
- Familiarity/experience with Ford’s Strategic Problem-Solving tools including key root cause identification tools (y=f(x), stress/strength interference, 3 legged/5 why, etc.)
- Familiarity/experience with Ford’s Failure Mode Avoidance and Robustness and Reliability processes (P-Diagram, DFMEA, RCL, etc.)
- Familiarity with Ford’s quality tools including GSAR, MWATS, Quality AI, etc
