General Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Student Engagement plays a critical leadership role in fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and engaging campus environment at Tiffin University. This position is responsible for the execution of student activities and the leadership of the student organization executive board members. The Assistant Director will also collaborate outside of the Student Engagement department to create initiatives and events that will enhance the student experience. Key areas of oversight include the Campus Activities Board, all campus student organizations, and assisting with large-scale events like Welcome Week, Homecoming, and Spring Fest. The Assistant Director will also lead efforts to ensure effective communication of events, promote student leadership, and advance the institution's diversity and inclusion goals through thoughtful programming and engagement.

  • Advise and provide support to student organizations, ensuring up-to-date records of constitutions, executive boards, and event attendance.
  • Direct Supervision of Campus Activities Board to ensure development and consistent quality of student-led incentives.
  • Meet regularly with student organization presidents to discuss activities, challenges, and provide guidance for future planning.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Engagement to plan new engagements, initiatives, and the Dragon Lair game room structure.
  • Connect with campus resources and neighboring departments to provide engagement support and student involvement opportunities. 
  • Assist student organizations with event planning logistics, including budgeting, contracts, room reservations, and promotional efforts.
  • Serve as an advisor to campus leaders, providing leadership development opportunities and support for event planning and execution.
  • Oversee budgets for student organizations, coordinating with the Development and Business Offices to manage expenses and sponsorship opportunities.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Engagement to assist with Student Government, Student Organization trainings & Greek Council
  • Collaborate with various departments, including Housing & Residence Life, Student Success, Career Development & Admissions, to support and promote student initiatives and events.
  • Engage with the university’s diverse student population to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment through programming that aligns with equity and cultural wealth initiatives.
  • Develop materials that work along with Marketing branding and University requirements.
  • Work alongside the Director of Student Engagement, Student Engagement Graduate Assistant, Event Planning & Marketing Interns to ensure departmental success.
  • Attend student-led engagements, off-campus conferences, and outings, which may include work outside traditional business hours.
  • Additional duties as assigned, and flexibility to additional tasks, the Student Engagement office may be assigned.

Qualifications For The Job:

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field is required.
  • A Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.

Experience

  • 1-2 years' experience in student activities, leadership development, and/or campus programming. Student affairs experience with an emphasis on student development strongly preferred.
  • 1 or more years of advising students on personal and academic matters.
