Position Purpose

The Medic supports the Health Center’s mission — to promote students’ development as healthy individuals and members of society — by providing safe, efficient, and compassionate health services under the direction of nursing and medical provider staff. The Medic contributes to daily patient care, assists in urgent and emergent situations, and helps maintain readiness of clinical operations. Care is delivered within the boundaries of the Academy’s protocols, federal and state regulations, and the established scope of practice at the Lamont Health and Wellness Center.

This is a per diem (non-benefited) position, during the Academic Year (Sept-Beginning of June) and 5 weeks in the summer (Beginning of July through the first week of August). Multiple shifts available. 

Job Responsibilities

Clinical Support

  • Perform patient intake, including obtaining vital signs, medical history and initial observations.
  • Assist RNs and providers with treatments, procedures, testing and monitoring of students.
  • Draws blood, administers immunizations and performs other medical procedures and tests as needed necessary and ordered by provider.
  • Support medication administration process as directed by nursing or provider staff.
  • Document clinical encounters accurately in the electronic health record.
  • Provide observation and care for students admitted to the health center for rest or overnight monitoring.

Emergency and Urgent Care

  • Provide immediate stabilization and interventions consistent with Medic-level practice and Academy protocol, until care is assumed by nursing or provider staff.
  • Assist with triage during health center surges or emergency events.
  • Maintain readiness of emergency equipment, supplies, and campus AEDs.

Health Services Operation

  • Support infection prevention and control by cleaning, sanitizing and restocking exam rooms and common spaces.
  • Gather and dispose of hazardous or biomedical waste safely.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of clinical and emergency supplies.
  • Provide courteous, confidential communication with students, parents and other Academy stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills And Competencies

  • Respect for diversity of identities and experiences, an orientation toward equity and inclusion, and cultural competency in all aspects of Academy life.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology applicable to assigned duties, medical supplies and equipment used in health center care, pre-hospital care first aid, and emergency medical principals as applied within the limited of the paramedic scope of practice and Academy policy.
  • Familiarity with adolescent health concerns and development.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust with students, families and colleagues.
  • Ability to analyze emergency situations accurately, prioritize tasks and remain calm in urgent or emergency situations.
  • Patient assessment skills, perform vital signs.
  • Ability to plan work, establish priorities and remain flexible.
  • Ability to work in a flexible schedule including extended hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and MS Office.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment wile maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

Position Requirements

Education/Licensure

  • Current certification/licensure as a Paramedic or Advanced EMT in the State of New Hampshire (or National Registry with NH recognition).
  • CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS) required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred.

Experience

  • 3–5 years of experience in emergency medical services, urgent care, or a related healthcare setting preferred.
  • Experience working with adolescents or in an educational setting preferred.
  • Experience in an institutional or campus setting

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including responding quickly across campus in emergencies.
  • Ability to lift, move, or transport up to 50 lbs.
  • Sufficient dexterity to perform clinical procedures, operate medical equipment, and use computer systems.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to assess patients and respond in emergency situations.

Additional Requirements

  • Successfully complete a criminal background check (reviewed every 5 years)
  • Maintain valid driver’s license and clean driving record (reviewed annually).
  • Pre-hire medical clearance and immunization record review.
  • This position is designated Essential Personnel and requires reporting to or remaining at work during campus emergencies, inclement weather, or other events deemed appropriate by Academy
