The Role
As a result of continued growth, we are seeking a Senior Health & Safety Specialist in our St. George, NB office, this position will report directly to the Director of Health & Safety. The successful candidate will have the drive, determination, and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results that meet the established criteria. This role is critical in ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees, contractors, and stakeholders across marine and land-based operations. You will lead initiatives that foster a proactive safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive continuous improvement in health and safety performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with provincial Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations.
- Develop, implement, and maintain health & safety programs tailored to aquaculture operations.
- Conduct risk assessments, audits, and inspections across hatcheries, farms, processing facilities, and marine sites.
- Lead incident investigations, ensuring timely reporting and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into operational planning and decision-making.
- Analyze safety data and trends to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation.
- Assist management in developing practices for integrating health and safety into all business operations.
- Assist managers in developing safe work practices and implementing industry best practices and standards.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience working in Health & Safety, preferably in marine, agriculture or industrial setting.
- Certificate and/or Diploma in Health & Safety, Environmental field.
- Strong knowledge of Canadian Health & Safety legislation and industry best practices.
- Proven experience in incident investigation, hazard identification, and risk mitigation.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and comfortable handling conflict.
- Ability to analyze problems and make appropriate recommendations.
- Certification in OHS (e.g., CRSP, CRST, CHSC, NCSO) is an asset.
- Ability to travel within the Atlantic Provinces when required, potentially on short notice.
