Job Description

Our Western Canada Team is looking to grow and expand, offering unique opportunities to engage with high-profile clients and drive transformative initiatives across diverse industries. We’re seeking a seasoned GIS Subject Matter Expert to lead a critical GIS Alignment initiative. This role will focus on evaluating our client’s current geospatial ecosystem—covering technical platforms, data processes, governance, and stakeholder experiences—and defining a strategic roadmap that drives optimization, innovation and greater cost effectiveness.

Must be local to CALGARY and the surrounding area, as this position involves a hybrid work arrangement with some in-office presence required

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inventorying existing platforms, applications, integrations, and commercial arrangements using available documentation
  • Engaging stakeholders to gather needs and pain points through interviews
  • Assessing the data landscape, operational processes, and infrastructure
  • Reviewing governance, data quality, integration, and lifecycle management practices
  • Benchmarking our client’s current state against industry best practices to identify gaps
  • Developing prioritized initiatives across quick wins, medium- and long-term goals
  • Building a phased roadmap with clear KPIs and assigned ownership
  • Leading system, process, and change management efforts to achieve the future state

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of hands-on experience with GIS platforms
  • Proven experience implementing and supporting GIS systems in enterprise environments
  • Strong knowledge of spatial data models, geoprocessing workflows, and GIS integration with business operations
  • Experience conducting stakeholder engagement to gather requirements and translate them into technical solutions
  • Ability to assess current GIS technical landscapes and recommend improvements aligned with industry best practices
  • Familiarity with data governance, data quality standards, and lifecycle management in GIS environments
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills to collaborate cross-functionally and mentor teams
  • Experience in the utilities or energy sector

Other Skills & Experience:

  • Project management skills including planning and stakeholder communication
  • Certifications such as GISP (Certified GIS Professional) or PMP (Project Management Professional)
