Job Description
The Director, Global Public Affairs will play an integral role working across the three teams in the Global Public Affairs group (Domestic Public Affairs, Stakeholder Affairs and Transnational), reporting to the Head of Global Public Affairs. This role is based in Toronto.
The Director will run strategy development exercises, budgeting exercises, and analytical exercises, as well as a wide variety of planning, research and briefing needs. The individual will also act as an intentional bridge and connector between the three teams, with a view to supporting and collaborating with all members of the group.
In addition, this individual will be responsible for a long-term program that maintains CPPIB’s relationships with a variety of global bodies, a responsibility that requires deep integration and partnership with the broad leadership of the group.
The Successful Candidate Will:
- Be able to provide wise counsel to the Head of Global Public Affairs and broader leadership team
- Be a natural diplomat who is comfortable working across a number of teams
- Be adept at juggling multiple files, staying abreast of current events, and shifting with evolving priorities
- Be a highly motivated self-starter
- Be comfortable developing and maintaining external relationships
Accountabilities:
- Manage processes to help crystalize and coalesce strategies.
- Manage various projects and plans.
- Support budget management.
- Operate always from a spirit of collaboration and support. Bring various internal stakeholders together to harness their collective expertise.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to collaborate on projects which continue to advance CPPIB’s strategic priorities and build CPPIB’s brand.
- Conceive of and execute on models and frameworks to provide deep insights on political and geopolitical risk.
- Oversee and develop elements of long, medium, and short-term projects with a high degree of organization and attention to detail.
- Ensure flawless execution of materials development.
- Manage the ongoing development of executive and external materials, which may include analysis, briefing materials, advocacy papers, and strategic communications products to influence desired outcomes.
- Conduct or consult on the necessary analysis to present or inform recommendations.
Qualifications
- MBA in Finance and/or 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Global public affairs or geopolitical expertise.
- Strong project management skills to ensure the efficient, timely and best-in-class delivery of materials.
- Strong writing, editing, and proofing skills and attention to detail.
- Experience analyzing the market impacts or business implications of policy and geopolitical developments.
- Strong, demonstrated knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Microsoft Outlook. Proficiency with Bloomberg and AI software would be additive.
- Ability to produce professional content in written and visual forms.
- In-depth experience in working with and demonstrating strong comfort level with all levels of the organization and managing internal stakeholders.
