We are seeking a results-driven Procurement Specialist with proven experience in transportation and logistics operations across Central America. This role will lead sourcing activities for Warehouse, Cross-Border, Distribution, and Depot services in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, ensuring competitive, reliable, and innovative solutions that support our regional growth.
In this role, you will be at the forefront of shaping our logistics and services network, building strategic supplier partnerships, driving competitive tariff negotiations, uncovering savings opportunities, and securing best-in-class agreements that deliver value across Central America. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure our supply chain operates efficiently, cost-effectively, and at the highest standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Sourcing & Procurement
- Develop and execute procurement strategies aligned with regional and global business objectives
- Optimize procurement spend and drive cost efficiencies through detailed market and cost analysis.
Contract & Supplier Management
- Negotiate tariffs, contracts, and service terms to ensure value delivery and service excellence.
- Manage vendor relationships, including performance evaluation and strategic alignment.
- Draft contracts in collaboration with Area Legal experts and ensure proper onboarding/offboarding of suppliers.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Partner with internal teams (Sales, Product and Operations) to integrate procurement strategies with broader business goals.
- Support business growth by developing smart, commercially viable solutions.
Performance & Compliance
- Define and monitor KPIs focused on total cost of ownership, service quality, delivery performance, and supplier compliance.
- Conduct supply risk analysis and develop Total Value Ownership models.
- Ensure adherence to Maersk’s global and local policies, procurement guidelines, and business principles.
Innovation & Sustainability
- Drive sustainable and profitable growth through best-in-class sourcing practices and supplier innovation.
- Promote operational excellence and continuous improvement across procurement activities.
Requirements
- Regional Expertise: 3 years of proven experience managing transportation and logistics operations across Central America, with a deep understanding of regional market dynamics and regulatory environments.
- Language Proficiency: Fluent in Spanish; professional proficiency in English is highly desirable.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Procurement, Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, or International Trade. A Master’s degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management is a plus.
- Procurement & Negotiation Skills: Strong capabilities in supplier negotiation, tariff management, and contract execution. Procurement experience is highly valued.
- Analytical Strength: Strong numerical and analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail; capable of conducting cost analysis, market assessments, and performance evaluations.
- Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to think creatively and strategically when developing sourcing solutions and driving procurement initiatives.
- Influence & Change Leadership: Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive change across diverse business units.
- Collaboration & Communication: Positive, proactive, and collaborative attitude with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
