System Maintenance Controller

Role Purpose

To operate and maintain the Air Navigation systems and coordinate system needs and issues between SANS’ Centers and units, airline operators, telecommunication service providers and MED in order to achieve the overall mandates of the department within set KPI’s, agreed budgets and adopted policies and procedures.

Key Activities

Maintenance Planning and Control

• Develop Operating Plans for SANS’ Air Navigation systems and ensure that it is suitable and in accordance with operational needs and requirements.
• Lead and guide the implementation of the preventive maintenance plan within the sector and ensure that maintenance schedules are met as per regulatory and system vendor requirements.
• Develop plans to ensure operational and business continuity in case of failure or emergency and ensure that the Sector is equipped to handle any unexpected system failures including ensuring spare parts availability in coordination with logistics in the Sector.

Communication And Coordination

• Maintain and ensure adherence to Maintenance policies and procedures within the Sector and that Sector staff are properly informed about any changes in procedures.
• Monitor and control the operations and programs used by SANS in the sector.
• Modify and refine the Sector maintenance work plan based on in-service evidence to ensure that all maintenance activities are being conducted in accordance with safety, quality, performance and efficiency standards.
• Provide expert, technical advice and guidance within area of expertise to guide and support all areas of maintenance work.
• Follow up with task teams regarding system repair status to ensure the timely and effective delivery of maintenance activities, and coordinate with involved stakeholders, and particularly Maintenance Control, to update them on repair status and expected completion of activities. 
• Conduct studies to measure system performance in the Sector, ensure that performance is in line with internationally defined standards and share data with Maintenance Planning.

Continuous Improvement and Evaluation

• Initiate and set up the systems required for Air Navigation and ensure its validity and compliance with safety, health, quality, environmental and operational standards and regulations.
• Comply with all relevant SQE procedures and controls to ensure employee health and safety, regulatory compliance, delivery of high quality service and environmentally friendly behaviors.
• Provide recommendations on short and long term system and equipment retirement based on in-service experience to inform future system procurements and ensure alignment with international standards and requirements.

Policies, Processes and Procedures

• Conduct day-to-day activities while ensuring compliance to policies and procedures
• Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes taking into account leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement

Knowledge And Experience

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in Maintenance Control is required

Education And Certifications

• Technical Diploma is required
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information System, Electronics, Communications or Systems Engineering or equivalent is preferred.
