Shape Your Future in 2025 – A Clear Path to Equity Awaits

Roberts Crosbie Mortensen Lawyers is a leading Australian boutique law firm specialising in Business Litigation. Established in Newcastle for 17 years, we help SMEs navigate complex legal challenges, protect their interests, and achieve their business goals. Following our successful expansion into Sydney, we are experiencing rapid growth and are seeking an accomplished Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join our Sydney team and drive the future of our Commercial Litigation Practice with a focus on Building & Construction.

Your Opportunity to Lead and Grow

Joining our Sydney office, established in late 2022, offers the chance to step into a pivotal leadership role. With a focus on autonomy, high professional standards, and collaboration, you will have the opportunity to grow our Commercial Litigation Practice with a focus on Building & Construction Law. This opportunity uniquely positions you for long-term career success, including a structured pathway to equity - allowing you to shape your future without the challenges of starting your own firm or waiting for partners to retire.

If you are confident in your ability to bring existing referral networks and client relationships and contribute to the growth of our practice, equity is within your reach.

Why Choose Us?

At Roberts Crosbie Mortensen Lawyers, we empower our team to excel in their careers. We support our Solicitors in obtaining Specialist Accreditation, which enhances professional expertise, ensures diverse and rewarding work, and solidifies our reputation as leaders in Business Litigation. In fact, we have more Accredited Specialists in Commercial Litigation than 99% of all NSW law firms.

Our strong client relationships, repeat work, and high number of referrals reflect the value we provide and the trust we have earned. By joining us, you will gain access to a collaborative environment where your contributions are valued, your achievements recognised, and your potential fully supported.

We Offer:

  • A competitive salary with monthly performance-based commissions
  • Opportunities to work on complex, high value matters alongside industry experts
  • A collaborative, supportive, and “people first” culture
  • Comprehensive training and professional development
  • Recognition programs, including bonuses and quarterly cash awards
  • Specialist Accreditation support
  • A defined pathway to equity
  • Flexible working arrangements for work-life balance
  • Additional benefits such as birthday leave, volunteering leave, and Employee Assistance Programs for you and your family

The Role:

Reporting to Tony Peterson, an Accredited Specialist based in our Newcastle office, you will work closely with the Sydney team while enjoying significant autonomy. You will manage a broad range of complex matters, particularly in Commercial Litigation and both commercial and residential Building & Construction Law disputes, while mentoring junior solicitors and developing strong referral networks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct fixed-fee initial consultations with new clients
  • Advise on and draft construction contracts and subcontracts
  • Manage contract administration and resolve disputes related to delays, defects, and performance issues
  • Handle Payment Claims, Payment Schedules, and Adjudications under NSW Security of Payment Laws
  • Represent clients in Supreme Court, District Court, and NCAT proceedings
  • Build and maintain strong client and referral relationships
  • Mentor and supervise Associate Solicitors in the Sydney office

About You:

You are an experienced legal professional with a proactive mindset and a drive to deliver exceptional client outcomes. You thrive on taking ownership of your work and are eager to grow both personally and professionally.

To succeed in this role, you will:

  • Have 8+ years PAE with extensive experience in Security of Payment Claims and Building & Construction Law disputes
  • Demonstrate strong technical, drafting, and advisory skills
  • Be an effective mentor and leader, with the ability to guide junior solicitors
  • Possess exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be solutions-focused, with a commitment to achieving the best outcomes for clients
  • Meet billing targets while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and quality
  • Actively engage in business development and client relationship-building, leveraging your existing referral networks
  • Ideally, you have or are working towards Specialist Accreditation in Commercial Litigation with a sub-specialty in Building & Construction Law—a key criteria for securing your pathway to equity.

Join Us and Build Your Legacy

If you have ever considered starting your own practice but want to avoid the complexities of building from the ground up, Roberts Crosbie Mortensen Lawyers offers the perfect solution. With a strong operational foundation, high professional standards, and a clear path to equity, we provide everything you need to grow your career and make your mark.
