Project Director - Light Into the City

We’re seeking a Project Director to provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure the successful planning, governance and execution of one of the most significant capital projects undertaken in the recent history of Melbourne.
How You’ll Make an Impact
This role offers the opportunity to lead the delivery of a key strategic platform for the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne, encompassing one of the most significant capital projects undertaken in recent history. This multi-year, high-value initiative includes the restoration of St Patrick’s Cathedral, redevelopment of the Cardinal Knox Centre, creation of a new multi-purpose gathering space and commercial offices for the Archdiocese. You will make an impact by:
- Establishing and maintaining governance structures that support effective decision-making and acting as the primary liaison between key stakeholders
- Taking full ownership of the strategic, operational and executive management of the Light Into The City project, ensuring that delivery milestones are met through coordinated planning and execution
- Proactively direct teams and individual contributors to execute project activities according to set timelines
- Leading end-to-end property development including feasibility, design, approvals and construction
- Ensuring integration of all precinct components to meet heritage, commercial and sustainability goals
- Providing financial and fundraising oversight together with risk and compliance management to ensure project viability
- Ensuring timely updates to the Catholic community, media, donors and government.
About You
- You hold relevant tertiary qualifications in project management, architecture, engineering, property development, or a related field
- You have a minimum of 10 years’ experience leading large-scale, complex capital or infrastructure projects
- Your expertise in contract negotiation, procurement, and project staging has seen you deliver multi-stakeholder projects involving significant public, community, or government interfaces
- Others recognise your experience in high-value project delivery, budget management, governance frameworks, and strategic planning
- You possess strong strategic and operational leadership capabilities
- You have a capacity to work across diverse stakeholder groups, including senior Church leadership, government, and donors
- You have a deep understanding of risk management, governance, and operational feasibility.
