Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role
We are seeking a Research Officer to join Te Kotahi Research Institute, supporting cutting-edge work in Indigenous AI. In this role, you will assist research projects, contribute to Māori research and capacity-building initiatives, and help integrate Indigenous knowledge into AI, data, and digital innovation. You will work closely with senior mentors, applying your expertise while developing your skills in a dynamic, collaborative research environment.
The salary for this role ranges from $79,211 to $95,174 per year (pro rata), depending on the skills, knowledge, and experience you bring to the position. This is a full-time, fixed-term position (37.5 hours per week) for two years, subject to project funding, and will be based at our Hillcrest Campus.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?
You hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field, with strong research skills and a passion for Indigenous AI. You are organised, self-motivated, and able to work collaboratively while supporting and leading others. You have the ability to apply ICT tools effectively, train and mentor colleagues, and contribute to high-quality research outputs. Ideally, you have experience attracting research funding and a commitment to Māori partnership, inclusivity, and excellence in academic research.

Te Kotahi Research Institute for Innovation supports the work of the Deputy Vice Chancellor Māori to sustain iwi relationships and develop the research capacity amongst staff and students while realising the research needs and aspirations of iwi.
