The Department of Screenwriting at LMU’s School of Film and Television is searching for an accomplished screenwriter/educator with extensive professional experience to join our department in a Clinical contract position at the level of Clinical Assistant Professor with competitive salary and benefits. This full-time (non-tenure) appointment begins August 15, 2026.
Degree and Teaching Experience: B.A. degree in screenwriting or a closely related field required; MFA preferred. Interested applicants should have a minimum of three plus (3+) years of university level teaching experience.
The successful candidate should have experience working in the industry (Hollywood, Independent, or International) and should have significant credits/experience in writing on at least two of the following platforms:
- Domestic or global feature films
- Cable or network television series
- Writing and producing short films and other short content
The successful hire will teach all-level undergraduate courses in feature film development, writing and rewriting the feature screenplay. Experience teaching television formats, particularly one-hour drama/dramedy is also of interest. One or more of the following skill sets is highly desirable:
- Writing and Creating with Technology: using emerging tools and practices, including artificial intelligence, short-form/vertical storytelling, social media platforms, and podcasting, to inform the writing process and prepare students to maintain creativity while navigating innovation in today’s entertainment industry.
- Writing for Streaming or Digital/New Media
The successful hire will be expected to 1) provide a high level of professional teaching and engage in the transition of students into the entertainment industry by recruiting mentors and participating in our professional transition programs, 2) serve on committees at the department and school level and as academic advisors, and 3) challenge themselves, their students, and their colleagues to work towards greater diversity of thought, equity in outcomes, inclusion of students from all backgrounds, accessible learning environments, and belonging in the profession.
