5C Group is seeking a Director of Data Center Engineering to join their growing team! 

About The Role:

The Director of Data Center Engineering is a senior leadership role responsible for shaping the strategy, design, and operational excellence of 5C’s North American data center portfolio. Based in Montreal, this role will oversee engineering functions across Canada and the U.S., ensuring resiliency, compliance, and innovation in mission-critical environments. With 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience, the Director will drive scalable infrastructure solutions, strengthen cross-border engineering teams, and align operations with both Canadian and U.S. standards.

What You’Ll Be Contributing:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the long-term engineering roadmap for data centers in Canada and the U.S., ensuring scalability, resiliency, and operational efficiency.
  • Infrastructure Oversight: Lead the design, build, and lifecycle management of electrical, mechanical, and network systems across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Operational Reliability: Guarantee 24/7 uptime by implementing redundancy, disaster recovery, and monitoring systems across all facilities.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with hardware, software, and security teams to deliver integrated, high-performance solutions.
  • Innovation & Capacity Planning: Identify emerging technologies, lead pilots in advanced cooling, renewable energy, and automation, and plan for long-term capacity growth.
  • Vendor & Partner Management: Negotiate high-value service agreements, manage vendor relationships, and ensure alignment across Canadian and U.S. facilities.
  • Compliance & Certifications: Ensure adherence to Quebec and Canadian codes (CNESST, CSA, ISO/IEC), as well as U.S. state and federal requirements (OSHA, NFPA, Uptime Institute).
  • Talent Development: Mentor engineering managers and technical leads in both Canada and the U.S., fostering a culture of collaboration, professional growth, and succession planning.

What Sets You Apart:

  • Experience: 7–10 years of progressive leadership in data center engineering or infrastructure operations, ideally with cross-border or multi-site responsibility.
  • Technical Depth: Advanced knowledge of data center hardware, network design, and optimization of power and cooling systems.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong track record of leading multi-disciplinary, geographically distributed teams and driving accountability.
  • Strategic Acumen: Skilled in budgeting, forecasting, and aligning technical strategy with corporate growth objectives.
  • Innovation Mindset: Proven ability to evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to enhance resiliency, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Cross-Border Knowledge: Familiarity with both Canadian and U.S. compliance frameworks; bilingual English/French is a significant asset.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
