Job Description

The Wildlife Unit fosters stewardship for NYC Parks, supports healthy urban wildlife populations and promotes quality of life for all New Yorkers through education, programs, policies, procedures and management plans that encourage coexistence between people and wildlife in New York City.
Major Responsibilities
- Under supervision, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, assist the Director in the management and operations of the Wildlife Unit.
- Supervise Wildlife Unit staff as directed.
- Write technical reports, communications, budgets, and evaluations related to the Wildlife Unit.
- Analyze and synthesize data to create visualizations, communications and interpretive signs accessible to all New Yorkers.
- Coordinate with City, State, Federal and community stakeholders on emergent wildlife concerns. Participate in multi-agency task forces as they arise.
- Communicate with members of the press regarding wildlife inquiries.
- Edit and proofread press releases, reports, and websites.
- Recruit, hire, and train staff as the team grows.
- Review and edit responses to correspondence.
- Attend community meetings and present on relevant wildlife species.
- Coordinate compiling data, producing reports and project tracking.

Qualifications
- 1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
- 2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
- 3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
