What you will do:
As a Senior Scientist on the Process Metallurgy team, you will focus on inventing, developing, and scaling-up hydrometallurgical processing steps for Electra’s clean iron process from the laboratory to our pilot, demonstration, and commercial plants.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead projects to study and scale up hydrometallurgical processes, including designing experiments, specifying equipment, and interpreting results
- Identify and develop new approaches and unit operations for hydrometallurgical processing
- Collect and synthesize data; present results to guide engineering and business decisions
- Act as a subject matter expert for hydrometallurgy and chemistry
- Direct and mentor junior team members
- Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies, safe work practices, and company policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
What we need you to bring to the team:
- PhD in chemical engineering, mining or metallurgical engineering, chemistry, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant professional experience, or a master’s degree with 6+ years of relevant professional experience, or a bachelor’s degree with at least 8+ years of relevant professional experience (excluding internships, co-ops, and academic projects)
- Exhibits advanced, wide-ranging experience using in-depth professional knowledge, acumen, concepts, and company objectives to develop and resolve complex models and procedures
- Provides solutions to technical and operational issues in creative and effective ways
- Understands the interrelationships of different scientific and engineering disciplines and contributes to cross-functional initiatives
- Directs the application of existing principles and guides the development of new policies and process innovations
- Works on complex issues requiring in-depth evaluation of variable factors and determines methods and procedures for new assignments
- Exercises judgment in selecting methods and adapting complex techniques and evaluation criteria to obtain results
- Work is reviewed upon completion and is consistent with departmental and organizational objectives
- Mentors junior employees and leads internal projects without direct people management accountability
- Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise and adapts communication style to deliver messages that align with broader business goals
- Frequently advises others on complex matters and may be accountable through team efforts for delivering tactical business targets
- Demonstrates hands-on experience designing, building, and performing hydrometallurgy experiments
- Strong understanding of hydrometallurgy fundamentals and their practical application in industrial or research settings
- Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, develop, and implement innovative chemical processes
- Independently leads and drives projects to completion with minimal oversight
- Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing across technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrates adaptability in dynamic environments and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives
What we want you to bring to the team:
- Direct experience with commercial-scale hydrometallurgical operations
- Experience with process simulation software and using the results to guide decisions
- Experience mentoring and supervising other team members
Compensation:
- The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $100,000-$130,000 and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
