Overview:
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Regulatory Response & Reporting:
- Monitor emerging regulations and industry trends to inform proactive compliance strategies across the business. Perform industry benchmarking and research to inform response to new regulatory requirements
- Prepare executive-level reports and presentations for the Executive Risk & Compliance Committee, highlighting risks, and opportunities.
- Lead Prop 65 compliance efforts, including monthly reporting, vendor communication, and message development for private brand products.
Design Hazard & Risk Analysis:
- Conduct comprehensive design hazard analysis for new product designs, including foreseeable use analysis, benchmarking, and regulatory research.
- Analyze injury and recall data, identify safety or product failure trends, and recommend design or labeling improvements to mitigate risk.
- Partner with Sourcing and Design teams to integrate safety considerations early in the product lifecycle.
Product Safety Monitoring & Response:
- Track and respond to product safety concerns from multiple channels including online reviews, customer service calls, store reports, social media, reports to Risk Management, lawsuits, etc.
- Identify and escalate potential product safety trends as they are developing. Facilitate communication with vendors, customer service, or vertical brand teammates to determine if a product is defective, unsafe, or requires investigation/reporting to CPSC.
- Facilitate Product Safety Committee meetings with key stakeholders, ensuring timely resolution of issues and alignment across stakeholders.
Instructions, Warnings, & Labeling
- Review and enhance instruction manuals, on-product warnings, and packaging content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and regulatory compliance for warning statements.
- Ensure all consumer-facing materials reflect current safety standards and best practices.
Program And Project Leadership:
- Manage individual compliance projects & programs requiring the handling of highly sensitive, confidential, and/or legal information (e.g. product safety reports & incidents, Prop 65, etc.)
- Partner with key stakeholders across the business, including Vertical Brands, Merchandising, Brand Design, Legal, and Risk Management to guide on policies and internal controls
- Maintain visibility into product development cycles by participating in cross-functional meetings and providing compliance and product safety guidance to teams.
- Work efficiently across multiple company systems including those for eComm updates, packaging approval, PLM systems, Intera/Qlik, SharePoint, Vendor Data Portal, and more.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Safety, Human Factors Psychology, Engineering, or related field
- 3 - 5 Years of experience
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements for consumer products (e.g., CPSIA)
- Hardlines product development experience preferred
- Risk Assessment / Risk Analysis practices
- Proficiency in data analysis procedures
- Experience in testing / regulatory environment for consumer products preferred (CPSC, FDA, FTC)
- Strong analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
