GEO Next Generation Academy – Indianapolis is part of a network of high-quality public charter schools that deliver the innovative GEO Academies model developed by the GEO Foundation. It joins the 21st Century Charter at Gary and Gary Middle College in providing a high-quality learning experience to parents and students in Indiana. GEO Next Generation Academy is a tuition-free, public charter school that serves students in grades 9-12. Our dedicated faculty is committed to providing an outstanding education for students daily as they transition from middle school to high school and COLLEGE. Through our partnership with local colleges and universities, our students can take dual credit courses on the college campus to earn college and career credits at no cost to the student.

Full-Time, 12-Month Position
The high school Guidance Counselor provides individual guidance to help students create high school and college academic plans.
- ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
- A high school Guidance Counselor/College & Career Readiness Coach is required to perform the following duties:
- Respect the integrity, worth, and dignity of students
- Assist students in the areas of academic, career, and social/emotional development
- Promote and motivate student achievement
- Assist students with selecting courses to help them stay on track for their respective diplomas and prepare for post-secondary plans
- Help build the master schedule
- Implement the guidance and counseling program using appropriate techniques and models
- Guide students and parents on academic requirements, scheduling all HS and dual credit/college courses to maintain progress towards graduation and degree attainment (including graduation pathways and plans)
- Knowledge of college/university admissions processes, scholarship programs, and other educational opportunities
- Administer college readiness tests (i.e., Knowledge Assessment)
- Provide career and college entrance information to students, parents & teachers
- Coordinate college programming, including scheduling college visits, identifying internships and other opportunities
- Assist in long-range goals, including assistance in college applications, financial aid, and scholarship processes
- Participate in and initiate parent conferences as needed
- Continually assess student progress toward mastery of standards and keep students and parents well informed of student progress by collecting and tracking data, providing daily feedback, weekly assessments, and occasional parent/teacher conferences
- Develop effective professional relationships and communicate effectively with other staff members
- Plan and conduct Career Days, CAreer Month, Teen Job/College Fairs
- Contact, schedule, and arrange for guest speakers from the local business community, colleges, city, state and military services to present information regarding specific occupations to help students learn about higher education, vocational training and careers in local government agencies.
- Work with staff by providing appropriate information, materials, and assistance in supporting teacher efforts
- Act as primary local liaison with partner higher education institutions
- Assist in staff recruitment to aid in dual credit/Early College model
- Utilize all computer systems for the maintenance of student records
- Maintain complete and accurate student records
- Meet deadlines for submitting accurate reports
- Uphold all GEO Foundation and school policies
- Attend all staff meetings for professional development and attend designated school functions outside of school hours
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana School Counseling License
- Master’s Degree in School Counseling from an accredited college or university
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and formulation of action plans
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students
- Commitment to the mission and goals of GEO Next Generation Academy
- Knowledge of Indiana Graduation Requirements and College and Career Readiness Programs
- Experience in working with high school students and in reviewing student transcripts, scheduling, & graduation requirements
- Demonstrated success in Guidance Counseling, as demonstrated by annual performance evaluations.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office operations
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with high school students in a non-traditional setting and an urban environment
