Description

Job Summary:

Facilitates receipt of payments through maintenance of billing and accounts receivable, including managing patient accounts, personal payments, and insurance collections. Assumes supervisory and administrative responsibilities for efficient and effective function of area of responsibility.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

Mailed-In Insurance Payments

  • Post all mailed-in insurance payments by line item and batch according to protocol.

Mailed-In Patient Payments

  • Post mailed-in patient payments and clinic payments and batch according to protocol.

Un-Applied Payments

  • Review and work the Un-applied Payments and Credit Balances daily.

Post Era'S

  • Post all ERA's by line item and batch them according to protocol.

Charge Entry

  • Maintain working knowledge of charge entry and insurance follow-up protocols; provide back up to reimbursement specialist as needed.

Deposit and Report Balances

  • Ensure deposit totals balance with reports.

Eob'S

  • Proven understanding of Explanation of Benefits forms, claim forms, and the insurance billing process.

Patient Priority

  • Demonstrates that patients are a high priority.

Managed Care

  • Working knowledge of managed care, commercial insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid reimbursement.

Payment Problems

  • Alert manager when payments do not match contractual amounts; look for underpayments and silent PPOs.

Payments And Write-Off

  • Ensure payments and write-off are correct from contracted insurance companies.

Refunds

  • Process requests for refunds and submit to Director of Business Office for approval.

E-Mail

  • Comfortable using e-mail and interacting with Internet applications.

Practice Management

  • Working knowledge of practice management and word processing software.

Job Functions

  • Maintain detailed knowledge of practice management and other computer software as it relates to job functions.

Other Duties

  • Performs other duties as directed/required to ensure efficient operations of Premier Bone & Joint Centers.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and basic human anatomy.

  • Able to substantiate overtime, minimizes overtime and adjusts hours as needed.

Dress Code/Identification

  • Follow dress code of the department, appear professional when present in the clinic, wear identification while on duty, and communicate name and role to patient appropriately.

Cell Phone Use

  • Cell phone may be used for business purposes only. Utilizes cell phone for personal use only during breaks or meal periods out of the public eye.

Staff Meetings/In-Services

  • Participates in Premier Bone & Joint Centers and departmental in-services and staff meetings.

Safety & Infection Control Policies

  • Adhere to safety and infection control policies.

Care of Environment, Equipment, and Supplies:

Clean, Neat, Safe Environment

  • Maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment for patients and staff, including personal work areas.

Office Equipment Skills/Malfunctioning Equipment

  • Utilizing correct/safe technique when using equipment and notify manager of malfunctioning equipment.

Requirements

Education:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent - Required
  • Associate or Equivalent - Accounting or Related Field - Preferred

Experience:

  • 2 Years - Accounts Receivable in Medical Office, Reimbursement Department or Equivalent - Preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Seeing - Must be able to read reports, use computers, and visually monitor performance - Constant
  • Hearing - Must be able to hear well enough to communicate with patients, financial institutions, physicians, administration, and co-workers - Constant
  • Speaking - Must be able to verbally communicate with patients, financial institutions, physicians, administration, and co-workers - Constant
  • Grasping - Must be able to write and type - Constant
  • Sitting - Constant
  • Standing - Rarely

Weight Demands:

  • Lifting - Must be able to lift 10 or less pounds - Occasionally

  • The fast paced environment may lead to increased levels of personal stress and demand high mental acuity.

Physical Hazards

  • Physical harm is possible when performing physical requirements, as listed above. Exposure to communicable disease, bodily fluids, and/or toxic substances is possible and can be physically harmful.

Unique Work Schedule/Travel

  • May be required to work after hours, on weekends, or holidays.
