Orna Therapeutics, Inc. is a Watertown-based biotechnology startup on a mission to create therapies for diseases inaccessible to existing approaches. Built on novel circular RNA technology developed at MIT, Orna is leading the next wave of RNA therapeutics with our best-in-class expression and delivery platform.
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Co-op Student to join our team and support high-throughput gene editing screening projects. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience with cell culture, gene editing, next-generation sequencing (NGS), and automation technologies that drive large-scale biological discovery. This role is ideal for students interested in molecular biology, biotechnology, or biomedical sciences who are looking to apply their academic knowledge in a dynamic research environment.

- General Laboratory Support
- Support primary and/or immortalized mammalian cell culture activities under sterile conditions.
- Perform routine cell culture techniques including plating, passaging, counting and transfection.
- Monitor cell growth, viability, and morphology.
- Assist in the setup and execution of large-scale biological assays.
- Operate and maintain laboratory automation and liquid handling systems.
- Collect, record, and analyze experimental data following established protocols.
- Perform automated and manual NGS library preparation and execute sequencing workflows.
- Conduct quality checks on sequencing libraries and resulting data to ensure accuracy and integrity.
- Work closely with team members to troubleshoot and optimize protocols.
- Prepare reagents, buffers, and media as needed.
- Maintain accurate lab notebooks and electronic records.
- Follow safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized workspace.
Qualifications
- Graduate or undergraduate student currently enrolled in Biology, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of cell culture techniques and molecular biology methods is desirable.
- Familiarity with next-generation sequencing workflows is an asset but not required.
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to follow standard operating procedures.
- Willingness to learn and work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
