The State Election Board is seeking a creative, dependable, organized, and self-motivated individual to serve as a Public Information Assistant.
Job Details
- The Public Information Assistant will work under the supervision of the Director of Communications and Public Information to provide support in all areas of communications and assist with the daily management of the election archives. Organization, professionalism, and attention to detail are a must.
- Tasks may include writing and proofreading public communications materials including press releases, election reminders, informational handouts, social media posts, and website content. Candidates must have the ability to think creatively, while adhering to statutory requirements and agency procedures.
- The Public Information Assistant will interact with a variety of individuals in this position, both inside and outside the office, and must also be able to effectively communicate with these individuals through verbal and written communication. The Public Information Assistant will also assist with responding to communication from the public and must become knowledgeable about the website and its content.
- In addition to providing communications support, the Public Information Assistant will also be responsible for scanning and organizing documents for the election archives and will assist in efforts to research and retrieve documents and/or information for Open Records requests and agency projects. While no prior knowledge of election administration is required, candidates must be willing to become knowledgeable about this specialized field – specifically as it relates to Oklahoma.
- The Public Information Assistant will also play a role in assisting the Director of Communications with the preparation of special projects such as candidate filing packets and educational materials.
- Due to the wide range of tasks required for this position, eligible candidates must be self-motivated, demonstrate an aptitude for learning and be willing to engage in tasks outside of the candidate’s current skill set.
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, or related field is preferred. Equivalent experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Required
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Excellent research and organizational skills.
Experience Proofreading Documents.
- Ability to think critically and provide effective solutions.
- Experience with Windows 10 or higher operating system.
- Knowledge and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
Preferred
- Working knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro.
- Experience with website authoring, graphic design, and/or social media messaging.

Hours
Office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Some overtime, weekends, and holidays may be required during peak election cycles.
