Purpose

To assist The Cockrell School of Engineering faculty and research staff in matters relating to the preparation, submission and/or negotiation of sponsored project activity and research proposals.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and review budgets for sponsored project proposals and contracts for accuracy and compliance with sponsor, federal, state, local, and university guidelines and regulations.

  • Assist faculty and other university research staff with electronic proposal submissions utilizing internal university systems and external sponsor systems (i.e., UT Research Management Suite (UTRMS), Research.gov, DOE Exchange, Grants.gov, etc.).

  • Review University-sponsored project proposals for compliance with sponsor, federal, state, local, and university guidelines and regulations. Provide counsel and guidance for corrections.

  • Submit proposals electronically in a timely manner. Notify PI of any sponsor requests for information; obtain and submit.

  • Provide appropriate instructions to administrative staff for preparation of award documents and flag potential problems for award staff; document corrections and comments. Review for completeness and accuracy.  Assist administrative staff with grant management questions and procedures, submission of annual progress reports and extension requests.

  • Review awards and proof for accuracy, formatting, compliance, export control or Homeland Security issues. Check terms and conditions, budget statement of work and letters of commitment. Consult faculty on intellectual property and other contractual issues.

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business or public administration, social sciences, or a technical/scientific field

  • Five years of experience in the preparation, processing, and negotiation of grant and contract proposals and awards

  • Good written and oral communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated math and computer skills. Strong organizational and analytical skills. Attention to detail and multi-tasking skills. Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work as a team member without day-to-day supervision.

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook. Familiar with web-based documents. Excellent problem-solving skills.

Salary Range

$80,000 + depending on qualifications

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment, with dynamic work conditions and frequent interruptions.

  • Work outside standard office hours may be required on occasion, including evenings and weekends, to manage peak periods and key deadlines.

Work Shift

  • Standard business hours are Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Flexible Work Arrangements, including flexible schedules and hybrid telework, may be available.
