Full Time

We are looking for an ambitious candidate for a PostDoc project to focus on pattern set mining in stochastic optimization.

In stochastic optimization there may exist a plenitude of optimal alternatives that may be relevant for the decision maker. You will be responsible for developing new, fast solution methods for stochastic optimization problem that can find many near-optimal solutions, and to organize the alternative solutions in an understandable way. This could involve methods like Pattern Set Mining, Association Rule Mining, or Outranking methods. You will be working cross-disciplinary involving algorithmics, stochastic optimization, multi-criteria decision making, and data science.

As part of the project, you will implement and test algorithms and further develop your skills in writing scientific papers.

The developed models will be tested on data from energy investment models, as well as transport infrastructure problems.

We will be an academic team of three PhD students and four PostDocs at DTU, as well as several international experts. The project is headed by David Pisinger who has published several hundred papers in optimization and algorithms. DECIDE is funded by Horizon ERC Grants (ERC-2022-ADG).

You will have the chance of working in a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment at one of Europe’s top technical universities, a university that values innovation, societal impact, and diversity. Located in Copenhagen, one of the world's most livable cities, the university offers an excellent quality of life, a safe and sustainable urban environment, and a vibrant cultural scene.

Responsibilities and qualifications
As part of the DECIDE project you will be working on developing next generation of tools for decision making under uncertainty.

  • You should have at least basic knowledge about stochastic optimization.
  • Knowledge about various data mining techniques.
  • It would be an advantage to have some experience in writing efficient algorithm, and solution of optimization problems.
  • You should be passionate for research and for pushing the scientific frontiers.
  • Excellent programming skills.
  • Good collaboration skills.
  • Fluent in English, spoken as well as written.

As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).

We offer
DTU is a leading technical university globally recognized for the excellence of its research, education, innovation and scientific advice. We offer a rewarding and challenging job in an international environment. We strive for academic excellence in an environment characterized by collegial respect and academic freedom tempered by responsibility.
