The Opportunity:

Ophthalmic Technicians (OT) are responsible for providing pre-and-post examination care as well as assisting with various administrative duties.  OT’s provide physicians with necessary information to prepare and customize each exam.

 A Day in the Life (What you will do here):

  • Manage duties related to opening and closing the clinic.
  • Take accurate medical histories from clinic patients. 
  • Instructing patients about medications, tests, and procedures.
  • Administer topical ophthalmic medications.
  • Operate ophthalmic equipment such as ocular coherence tomography cameras, tonometer.
  • Measure visual acuity.
  • Clean and/or sterilize ophthalmic instruments or equipment.
  • Assist physicians with ophthalmic procedures.
  • Perform data entry and clerical duties, as required. 
  • Ensure rooms are stocked and ready for each patient.
  • Manage temperature-regulated drug inventory and consignment.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned by the manager

 What you need to ensure you are set up for success:

  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Superior communication skills, particularly verbal, with excellent “bedside manner”, professionalism, and active listening
  • Knowledge of EMRs and MS Office suite of applications
  • Very organized, with attention to detail
  • Experience with a number of diagnostic tools such as IOLMaster and tests, including topography, refraction, slit lamp examination, lensometry, auto-refraction, visual acuity, fundus photography, tonometry, OCT testing of the retina, biometry, orb scan, lens star, iTrace.
  • Patience, approachability and calm demeanor
  • Ability to manage patient expectations and concerns
