Summary

The Head of Operations - IDS will be primarily responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Juarez, Mexico plant, but also be accountable for all the manufacturing sites across the global interventional devices network (U.S., Mexico, and Slovakia).  This role works in close partnership with site leaders and managers to drive efficiency and effectiveness across the sites. The successful candidate will be accountable to evaluate and make recommendations on manufacturing strategy, annual goals and objectives, and long-range investment plans.  This role drives innovation around manufacturing systems and technology and will work in partnership with global OPEX, SCM, Quality and Engineering to ensure each location is contributing to the P&L results of the product group and driving to hit sales and profit targets. The successful candidate will also have the capability to manage multiple-site operations teams and be a bridge to the MedTech Senior Leadership Team (SLT).    

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Execute Healthcare Operational strategy through Operational Excellence Techniques, Systems and KPIs with an emphasis on safety and health
  • Drive P&L results by partnering with the Commercial and Finance teams
  • Partner with site and division Human Resource teams to ensure our cultural and engagement commitments are followed through on for site level teams
  • Evaluate and make recommendations on strategic decisions with significant impact to the Healthcare division manufacturing network. Examples include, but may not be limited to:
  • Manufacturing strategic philosophies
  • Manufacturing policies
  • Capacity utilization, expansion, and rationalization
  • Make/buy – facilitates site selection process
  • Identifies manufacturing opportunities, bottlenecks and synergies. Provides recommendations and solutions including financial analysis and basic modeling.
  • Partners with Operations leaders across all Healthcare product lines to ensure best practices can be leveraged across the Division.
  • Coordinate with supply chain management to ensure that manufacturing policies are consistent with supply chain policies (i.e. target inventory levels are set with common understanding of OTIF targets and expected supply variability)
  • Develop and implement processes / frameworks that allow manufacturing’s strategic direction to be regularly refreshed with the corporate planning cycle (ie: forecasts, budgets, results)
  • Ensure that the Healthcare capital portfolio is effectively allocated and aligned to corporate strategy.
  • Develop common procedures and systems for dissemination of key information across the manufacturing sites
  • Manage the harmonization of global manufacturing processes across Emergent sites
  • Provide leadership on integration projects, i.e., MRP, QMS, plant maintenance,

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education And/Or Experience:

  • 15+ years’ experience of relevant operations and leadership experience required with a minimum of 5+ years in the medical devices industry.
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in engineering, manufacturing or relevant area required. An M.S, or MBA degree is preferred.
  • Strong, clear experience in strategic management, planning and execution.
  • Demonstrated track record of outstanding leadership skills in the development of the team, and cross-functionally.
  • A strong leader, communicator, and influencer.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skills in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures.
  • Experience in formulating, developing and implementing new strategies and procedures.
  • Travel (domestic and international) up to 30%
