Be the new Data Platform Engineer
In a biotech company bonding to discover, design and develop innovative peptide-based medicines
Currently, we are looking for a new Data Platform Engineer, who has experience operating and continuously improving a qualified Databricks-based data platform and running compliant, reliable services for GxP data products. If this sounds like you, and you are ready to take on a broad area of responsibilities with an independent attitude, you are a match for us.
Join Zealand Pharma’s Data Analytics & AI Platform team to run and evolve our enterprise data platform with Databricks and Microsoft Fabric. This role focuses on platform operations, reliability, compliance, and enablement—partnering with data engineering colleagues who build data products. Work closely with QA IT, Security, and the cloud team to ensure the platform is qualified, well-governed, and ready to support validated GxP use cases at scale.
You will be reporting to the Head of Data Analytics and AI Platform and be part of a small but experienced team of data specialists, the team is part of Zealand Pharma’s IT organization and partners closely with functions across the company. We develop and support our data analytics strategy, operating model and platform while being the technical Data and AI powerhouse in Zealand. We put great emphasis on enabling our colleagues to get the maximum potential out of their data, so we see collaboration across IT and the business as the key to our success.
Responsibilities:
Operate and optimize the Databricks platform (workspaces, clusters, Unity Catalog, permissions) to ensure availability, performance, and cost efficiency.
Lead and maintain platform qualification/validation controls and documentation in a GxP context, including change, release, and access management.
Implement and manage CI/CD with Azure DevOps and infrastructure-as-code with Terraform for consistent, auditable platform provisioning and configuration.
Monitor, alert, and troubleshoot platform services, drive incident, problem, and service request management with clear playbooks and SLAs.
Govern data security and compliance (identity and access, data protection, audit logging) in collaboration with Quality, Security, and Cloud Infrastructure.
Coordinate lifecycle management; oversee backup/restore, disaster recovery, and capacity planning across environments.
Candidate profile
A service-oriented platform engineer with a quality mindset who enjoys ensuring stable, secure, and compliant operations. Thrives on automation, documentation, and collaboration, balancing pragmatism with rigor in a regulated environment and enabling teams to deliver value safely.
Hands-on experience operating Databricks in production, including workspace administration, cluster policies, and access controls (e.g., Unity Catalog).
Proficiency with CI/CD in Azure DevOps and infrastructure-as-code using Terraform for cloud platform provisioning and configuration management; experience with Bicep is a big plus.
Familiarity with GxP expectations for computerized systems (qualification/validation, change control, documentation); direct GxP platform experience is a strong plus.
Experience with monitoring and observability, incident/problem management, and handbook-driven operations; focus on reliability and cost management.
Understanding data security, identity and access management, and audit logging in Azure and Databricks.
Ability to collaborate with Data & Analytics engineers to enable validated data products.
