You will work on our live streaming solution and the stream participation experience in the Touch Surgery app (Medtronic’s digital surgery platform that securely captures, manages, and streams surgical video for training and collaboration), using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose to deliver resilient, high-quality experiences in demanding clinical environments. If you love solving complex problems, owning outcomes, and shaping impactful products, this role is for youThis remote role is aligned to UK hours with a London reporting location for occasional in-person collaboration. You will partner with a cross-functional team of Android engineers, test engineers, and product owners across the full SDLC (Software Development Life Cycle), with opportunities to learn and teach in a supportive, high-ownership culture. Expect periodic app release rota participation, close collaboration with QA (Quality Assurance), and access to training, including a budget for conferences like DroidCon London. Our work environment offers flexibility, a full remote contract option, and mission-driven projects at the intersection of healthcare and AI (Artificial Intelligence).
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
- Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and optimize native Android solutions using Jetpack Compose and Kotlin
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to define objectives, scope, and milestones, and participate across the full SDLC
- Implement clean, readable Kotlin using advanced language features and established architecture practices
- Build and maintain CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) with high unit and UI (User Interface) test coverage for fast, verified feedback
- Deliver a reliable kiosk-mode streaming experience optimized for operating room workflows and network conditions
- Release the app to users on a rota, monitor quality signals, and address issues to maintain a high bar for reliability
- Create and maintain technical documentation including specifications, user guides, and process manuals, and contribute to team knowledge sharing
Required knowledge and experience
- Proven Android experience with Kotlin using Views and/or Jetpack Compose to ship production features
- Strong unit testing and debugging skills, plus working knowledge of UI testing fundamentals
- Proficiency with Git for version control and collaborative workflows
- Ability to set priorities, solve complex problems, and constructively challenge the status quo
- Clear communication skills to explain abstract concepts and trade-offs to technical and non-technical partners
- Hands-on participation across the SDLC, from requirements and design through release and maintenance
