About The Team

The Marketing & Communications Unit is responsible for promoting, positioning and protecting Cancer Council’s brand, reputation and awareness across NSW and supports the whole organisation.

About The Role

The Content Specialist plays a pivotal role in shaping the Cancer Council NSW’s storytelling and brand voice across digital communications and marketing (website, social media, video). This role blends creative production with strategic communication, ensuring that Cancer Council NSW’s impact is conveyed with clarity, empathy, and resonance to diverse audiences.

Key responsibilities of the role

Content creation and editorial leadership

  • Develop and edit compelling written content for newsletters, blogs, social media and campaign materials.
  • Oversee content production, including coordinating with external vendors (e.g. video agencies and freelancer copywriters) and internal stakeholders (e.g. cancer researchers and program delivery managers) to deliver assets tailored to key platforms and audiences, as well as occasional in-house video production.
  • Lead editorial reviews with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. researchers, subject matter experts and people with lived experience of cancer).
  • Work with internal stakeholders to identify opportunities to repurpose and/or amplify stories across Cancer Council NSW’s paid, owned and earned channels.
  • Apply and uphold Cancer Council NSW’s brand guidelines and strategy to ensure consistency and clarity across all content formats.
  • Work with the Story Lead to develop the Community Ambassador (personal story) program, including identifying strong story opportunities, supporting with relationship management and story sharing.

Admin, analytics and innovation

  • Provide insights and recommendations to inform content strategy, planning, implementation and innovation
  • Maintain Cancer Council NSW’s content archive and be the first port of call for internal content-related enquiries.
  • Provide ad hoc administrative and operational support as required, including tasks relating to invoicing, contracts and risk assessments.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all CCNSW internal policies and external legislations i.e. Privacy Act, PCI Compliance, Charitable Fundraising Act requirements, financial controls etc.
  • Contribute to the documentation of internal policies and processes.

About You

Essential

  • Tertiary qualifications in marketing, communications or similar and/or relevant experience working in digital and/or content marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to guide, influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders (e.g. subject matter experts, funding partners and people affected by cancer) to capture, shape and develop impactful content for marketing and communications.
  • Strong project management skills with ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to balance creative and analytical thinking.
  • Desire to innovate and confidence to suggest new ideas.
  • Experience with or ability to learn video and image editing software, specifically Adobe Premiere Pro and Canva.

Desirable

  • Experience with videography and/or photography.
  • Experience with utilising AI in a content, marketing and communications context.
  • Experience with fundraising channels and tactics.
  • Experience working in a not-for-profit organisation and/or working with limited budgets.
