Who are we?
We want to be the best place that any of our 6,600 colleagues have ever worked.
We’re Phoenix Group, we’re a long-term savings and retirement business. We offer a range of products across our market-leading brands, Standard Life, SunLife, Phoenix Life and ReAssure. Around 1 in 5 people in the UK has a pension with us. We’re a FTSE 100 organisation that is tackling key issues such as transitioning our portfolio to net zero by 2050, and we’re not done yet.
We’re excited to offer a fantastic opportunity to join our Financial Performance team as a Planning & MI Actuary on a 6-month fixed term contract. While the team is primarily based in Birmingham, we’re open to considering candidates from other locations. Strong communication skills are essential, as collaboration across teams and locations will be key to your success in this role.
The role
This role presents an exciting opportunity for a qualified actuary with a strong interest in finance to thrive in the dynamic and high-profile environment of the Life Division MI team. You will play a key role in delivering technical insight and constructive challenge across critical financial metrics. Leveraging your expertise, you will support the production of accurate, timely, and actionable management information and analysis for stakeholders at all levels across the Phoenix Life Division. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of our trainee actuaries, providing guidance and support as they progress in their careers at Phoenix.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for a qualified actuary with experience of a Solvency II balance sheet as well as the drivers behind this.
You will need to be a strong communicator, both in engaging with colleagues in understanding their requirements and in communicating outcomes. Be able to demonstrate that you are a strong team player with the willingness to work with the team to meet tight deadlines over the year.
Producing MI to tight deadlines requires modelling simplifications and judgement over assumptions, so be prepared to make decisive decisions that hit the right balance between timeliness and accuracy. Be prepared to challenge the status quo, and devise innovative ways of making improvements to current processes.
Understanding of proxy modelling and it's uses in financial reporting is also key. Knowledge of IFRS reporting would be an advantage.
We want to hire the whole version of you.
We are committed to ensuring that everyone feels accepted and welcome applicants from all backgrounds. If your experience looks different from what we’ve advertised and you believe that you can bring value to the role, we’d love to hear from you.
If you require any adjustments to the recruitment process, please let us know so we can help you to be at your best.
We’re reviewing applications as they come in, so apply early to avoid missing out.
