Job Overview

Location/Schedule: This position is based out of the Lloyd Corporate Plaza, located in NE Portland, OR. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Position Description: The Compliance Specialist position supports compliance efforts across the organization- the focus of the work will be supporting compliance in our clinical and administrative departments and will serve as backup support for our housing compliance staff.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Assist with maintaining, revising, and executing policies and procedures for the general operation of the Compliance Program and its related activities.
  • Monitor laws, regulations and programs affecting Cascadia’s work; anticipate impact, develop strategies for continued compliance, and communicate these issues to staff as appropriate.
  • Proactively identifies potential compliance deficiencies or systemic weaknesses and escalates significant issues.
  • Support certifications, licensures, and other program needs, and when needed, lead efforts to provide required corrections with the recommended course of action to achieve compliance.
  • Support compliance committee, compliance risk assessments, and assist with developing and assessing effectiveness of compliance workplan.
  • Manages internal requests for assistance with compliance and legal matters.
  • Track open compliance and legal findings and support responses to external parties/groups for related matters.
  • Conduct internal audits, monitoring, corrective action management, and other tasks as needed for quality control.
  • Provide training and develop materials and resources for staff as needed for maintaining compliance standards.
  • Develop and maintain a process to support programs in contract review and ensuring contract compliance.
  • Review and ensure paperwork and/or files meets relevant standards.
  • Maintain databases for assigned programs and utilize data to complete compliance reports as required.
  • Perform administrative and technical tasks as needed to support operational compliance.
  • Assist with research, drafting documents, and other support for legal matters as needed.
  • Utilize tools to effectively communicate and collaborate, as well as to store and share data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Regulatory & Compliance:

  • Adhere to federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations
  • Maintain confidential agency information and ensure compliance with patient HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation that ensures compliance with all agency policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Understand safety regulations and evacuation procedures; participate in regular safety drills in compliance with program policies and procedures.
  • Complete assigned employee training in compliance with program and agency requirements.
  • Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and company meetings.

Qualifications

Education:

  • A High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) is preferred.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience in compliance or related field is required.
    • Education in a related subject, such as a paralegal certification, may be substituted for up to 2 years’ experience.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations as they pertain to behavioral health and government-funded healthcare programs preferred.
  • Operate computer hardware and software at a level needed to effectively perform job functions
  • Effective communication and active listening skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work proactively and effectively in a team and independently.

Other:

  • Ability to travel to multiple locations throughout the Portland Metro area.

Working Conditions

Environmental: Work is performed in one or more of the following: administrative and clinical office, acute care settings and community setting including client residences, correctional facilities, shelters, hospitals, public places and other social service sites. Meal periods and breaks are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are expected to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants.

Mental Demands: The work assigned is diverse and involves addressing new and unusual circumstances. The work regularly involves a degree of unpredictability and requires a flexible time management approach. In addition, this position requires exercising sound judgment.
